Maneater tells an unusual revenge story from the perspective of a bull shark. As a juvenile, you escape the fisherman Scaly Pete, who killed your mother. In the waters around Port Clovis you must first hunt smaller prey to survive. With every successful hunt your shark grows, unlocks new body adaptations and becomes a serious threat even to human hunters.

Seven regions full of prey and danger

The open game world includes swamps, holiday beaches, industrial harbours and the deep sea. Each region brings different animals, hiding places, collectibles and especially strong enemies. You move freely in the water, snap at prey, leap over the surface and attack boats or divers. On land you can also lunge forward briefly before you run out of air. As your strength grows, new paths open into areas that were previously dangerous.

Develop a shark to your playstyle

Prey provides nutrients, which you use to improve biological mutations: bone armour increases resilience, bioelectric body parts deliver special attacks, and further abilities make your shark faster or more aggressive. Experienced hunters in boats try to end your rampage. As a darkly humorous narrator, the fictional reality TV host Trip Westhaven comments on the story. Maneater is a pure single-player action RPG; there is no online multiplayer.

Base game and Truth Quest

The separately released story expansion Truth Quest takes you to Plover Island after completing the main campaign. It is not automatically included in the standard game, but is part of the commercial Apex Edition. The various native console and mobile versions are separate releases and may differ in additional content.

The standalone Android version was released on Dec 15, 2025 on the Google Play Store. Developer HandyGames has adapted the shark RPG for mobile devices, retaining the campaign, seven coastal regions, boss enemies and mutations. You control the shark via on-screen controls or, on compatible devices, a gamepad. Alongside the premium app there is a trial version with a purchase option, but it is not a separate game version. The expansion Truth Quest is currently not offered for Android.
