The Gray Wolves are a small mercenary unit in occupied Kirialos, where the Kingdom of Flare secures control of resource deposits by military force. Mercenaries Saga 3 tells the story of this unit as a classic Japanese tactics role-playing game. Every battle takes place on an isometric map with square grids.

Formation and class development

In turn-based combat, height differences and attacks from the side and from behind affect how effective an action is. With experience and skill points, you improve your mercenaries, switch to stronger classes and learn healing, support and attack spells. In addition to the main missions, there are free battles for training and particularly tough extra challenges. Touch controls and the compact pixel graphics characterize the smartphone version.

Smartphone release

RideonJapan released the iOS and Android versions on Apr 23, 2014 in Japan. The two apps have their own store IDs, which differ from the much later Windows Steam version. There is no Nintendo Switch game with the same single title: Mercenaries Saga Chronicles combines the first three parts as a separate collection.

Android with free trial

Google Play offers the first seven chapters for free. To unlock the full campaign, the developer says an in-app purchase is then required; the app is therefore not a permanently free full version. According to the store, Android 8.0 or newer is required, and the developers explicitly point out possible differences between devices. The store lists an age rating from 12 years. The video footage from the manufacturer stored here shows the same gameplay mechanics, but originally comes from the 3DS version and not from a separate Android launch trailer.
