Thomas Was Alone is a narrative puzzle platformer about friendship, self-confidence and teamwork. Behind the simple coloured rectangles are distinct personalities. Narrator Danny Wallace humorously guides Thomas and his companions through the abstract computer world, while David Housden’s music carries the calm, emotional story.
Together through tricky sections
You switch between characters with very different abilities and bring them together to the exit portals. Some jump particularly high, while others help as a moving platform or make their way through water. The deliberately reduced 2D graphics put the focus on timing, spatial thinking and the relationships between characters. The adventure is designed for one player and includes the 100 sections of the main story; several ports also include the 20 additional Benjamin levels.
Historical iPad and iPhone version
Bossa Studios released the mobile touchscreen version on May 15, 2014, initially for iPad. A later update made the app playable on supported iPhone and iPod touch devices too. The free added chapter Benjamin’s Flight expands the story with 20 more levels. The app has since been removed from the Apple App Store, so this is a historical native iOS entry, not an offer currently available to buy in the store.
