Monster Train 2: The Punished expands the roguelike card game with the playable clan of the Scourged. At its head stands Archus, the embodiment of darkness. Instead of protecting your train crew from damage at all costs, you turn their injuries into part of your strategy: clever combinations of cards, abilities and controlled friendly fire can boost the strength of your units and also hurt enemies.

New clan mechanics and the Monolith

With Punish, hits from your own spells and abilities trigger special effects. Bloodshed rewards damage taken on the same turn level, Chained can transfer the effect to enemies and Tenacious protects important units from taking the fatal hit through friendly damage. These mechanics can be combined with the three-floor battles, cards and units of the base game.

The Monolith opens a second path to escalation: you spend Ember and discard cards as tribute to build Devotion. Higher Devotion strengthens certain cards and gives new units Zeal, which increases attack and maximum health. A rushed sacrifice can, however, cost crucial cards. The expansion therefore favors risky, deliberately planned combinations over pure damage avoidance.

Requirements and scope

The Punished is separately sold, paid additional content and not a standalone game. Monster Train 2 is required on the same platform to use it. The DLC expands the existing deckbuilder and is neither a Deluxe Edition nor a replacement for the previous expansion Destiny of the Railforged.

Nintendo Switch 2: Big Fan Games confirms availability of The Punished for the new native Switch 2 version of the main game, which is due to release in 2026. A specific launch date for this DLC version and a native store product ID are not yet known.
