Super Bit Blaster XL: the arcade shooter with co-op
Super Bit Blaster XL is the standalone, extensively reworked version of the retro shoot-’em-up Bit Blaster XL. Developer Adamvision Studios has reworked the graphics, controls and some game mechanics and integrated two additional game variants. Instead of only fighting alone against ever more dangerous waves of enemies, you can play together with a second person or measure yourself in a direct duel.
Unlock ships and chase high scores
Your small pixel spaceship keeps flying forward. You steer it with simple commands, speed up or slow down and dodge enemies and obstacles. Collected ammo keeps the automatic firepower going; with missiles, lasers, spread shots, bombs and shields you improve your chances of survival. Coins unlock further ships whose speed, firepower and protection differ. The chase for a higher score forms the core of the short, repeatable rounds.
Single player, local co-op and versus
The PC version offers a solo mode, local two-player co-op and a competitive versus game. The alternative, more precise controls are optional; the game mechanics deliberately remain distinguishable from twin-stick shooters. Steam offers full controller support, achievements, leaderboards and Remote Play Together, so local game modes can also be shared via this Steam feature.
Standalone PC version from 2020
Super Bit Blaster XL was released on March 16, 2020 as a separate Steam game (App 865040) for Windows, macOS and Linux. It is not a mere Deluxe Edition and is sold separately from the original Bit Blaster XL (App 433950); Steam also has a bundle containing both standalone games. The Nintendo Switch version also offers local two-player modes. German on-screen text is confirmed on Steam; music by Spiff Tune accompanies the fast-paced pixel battles.
