The Guild II: Venice – trading power in the lagoon city
The Guild II: Venice, released in Germany as Die Gilde 2: Venedig, moves the medieval economic and life simulation to northern Italy. Between 1400 and 1600 you try to turn a simple craftsman’s family into a powerful trading dynasty. In Venice and Trieste, merchants, patricians and influential families compete for lucrative goods, buildings and political offices.
Trade, intrigue and the rise to Doge
You organize your businesses, build contacts with other families and use trade and diplomacy to open up new opportunities. Mercenaries let you settle conflicts beyond the markets too. The new professions Mercenary and Glazier and four scenarios add to the familiar dynasty mechanics. In the long run you can rise to become Doge of Venice.
Standalone game instead of regular DLC
Venice takes over professions and buildings from The Guild II and its spin-off Pirates of the European Seas, but according to the digital retailer GamersGate it is playable on its own without either predecessor. It is therefore a separate Windows game and not a DLC that only works with the base game. GamersGate lists the digital release on Sep 30, 2008; according to GameStar, the PC version was released in German retail on Oct 10, 2008.
Language and requirements
The currently available DRM-free GamersGate version is listed in English. The historical minimum setup cited is Windows XP or Vista and DirectX 9; GameStar lists a processor from 1.8 GHz, 512 MB RAM and a DirectX 9-capable graphics card. Compatibility may differ on current Windows systems.
