Nightshade – 百花百狼 ～戦国忍法帖～ is the original Japanese version of the romantic ninja visual novel, which came out for PlayStation Vita in 2016. The story is set in Sengoku-era Japan. Enju Ueno, daughter of the head of the Kōga clan, finally wants to prove herself as a ninja. Her first mission, however, leads her into a deadly plot in which familiar faces suddenly pursue other goals.
Five character routes and multiple endings
Over the course of the story, Enju meets, among others, Gekkamaru, Kuroyuki, Chōjirō Momochi, Hanzō Hattori and Goemon Ishikawa. Which relationship develops depends on your answers and decisions. Each of the five routes has different endings; the game combines romance with betrayal, family duties and historical ninja themes. The characters are fully voiced in Japanese, but the protagonist herself is not voiced.
The original PlayStation Vita version
The version for PS Vita and PlayStation TV was released in Japan by D3PUBLISHER on Feb 25, 2016, with the Japanese age rating CERO B (ages 12 and up). There it is titled 百花百狼 ～戦国忍法帖～. The later PC and Nintendo Switch versions are based on the same game; the Switch version also includes the additional short stories released later. For PS Vita, these five character stories were originally available as separate free add-on downloads.
