Final DOOM also came out for the first PlayStation in 1996. Unlike the original PC compilation, this console version, adapted by Williams Entertainment, includes a selection of maps from TNT: Evilution, The Plutonia Experiment and the Master Levels for DOOM II. It is therefore not an unchanged port of all 64 PC levels.
A different path through hell
With a shotgun, rocket launcher and BFG, you fight your way through winding military facilities and hellish fortresses from a first-person perspective. Alongside the enemies known from DOOM II, colored lighting effects, adjusted levels and the atmospheric soundtrack by Aubrey Hodges define this PlayStation version. Secret passages and hidden supplies reward thorough exploration; the high difficulty demands efficient use of ammo and armor.
PlayStation release and availability
The original European release came out in October 1996 as a PlayStation game from GT Interactive, while Williams Entertainment handled the port. It is a separate native PS1 version, not a PS3, PS4 or PS5 remaster. Later DOOM collections also contain Final DOOM content, but they are different products to buy. The historical PS1 game is mainly relevant as a used or collector’s version.
