Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening tells the prequel story of Capcom’s demon hunter Dante. When a gigantic tower rises from the ground, Dante finds himself facing his twin brother Vergil. Vergil wants to seize the power of the legendary demon Sparda – and Dante must fight through dozens of enemies, tricky passages and big boss battles to stop him.
The original PlayStation 2 action game from 2005
Unlike its predecessor, part three puts four fighting styles, chosen at the start, at the centre. Trickster makes acrobatic dodging easier, Swordmaster expands sword combos, Gunslinger boosts firearms and Royalguard allows countering enemy attacks. With more weapons and abilities, you develop Dante’s combat technique further. The main campaign is designed for one player; expressive cutscenes and varied boss fights frame the story.
Original edition and Special Edition on PS2
The original PlayStation 2 version was released in Germany on March 24, 2005. Later, the revised Special Edition followed for PS2 too, in which Vergil becomes playable and which includes new modes and additional improvements. It is a commercial re-release of the same basic action game on the same platform, not a separate series entry. The later Windows and Nintendo Switch ports have their own platform pages; Devil May Cry HD Collection, by contrast, is a collection of several games. The German PS2 edition has English voices and German subtitles and is rated 16+.
