What is A Game About Digging A Hole?
A Game About Digging A Hole is a short exploration game from DoubleBee. In the garden of a newly bought house, you dig a hole, collect underground resources and sell them to fund better equipment. As you go deeper, you come across an unusual discovery.
The game deliberately sticks to a manageable loop of digging, mining and upgrading. There is no competition and no extensive base-building simulation around the house.

Gameplay
From a first-person perspective, you clear earth with tools and uncover deeper and deeper layers. Under the plot you find materials that can be sold for money. The environment is not split into preset mine levels: the focus is on gradually uncovering a hole you dug yourself.
A small narrative secret gives the digging a goal without overshadowing the simple core idea.

Sell resources and upgrade equipment
Resources you find pay for new equipment. If you bring enough material to the surface and sell it, upgrades let you dig more efficiently. This opens up areas that were previously hard to reach, and the next descent is more rewarding.
The progression curve comes from the interplay of dig depth, collected finds and the targeted use of the proceeds.

The secret beneath the garden
The digging leads to more than just valuable finds. A secret also waits underground that makes the seemingly ordinary starting point of the game look different. The way there comes from repeated descents and upgrading your tools.
What exactly is discovered is one of the few surprises in the story and is deliberately left undescribed here.

Single player and pacing
The adventure is designed for one player only. Steam lists it as single-player, and the console stores also list one player. There is no shared co-op mode and no competitive multiplayer matches.
The game has no time limit. Your progress depends on how deep you dig and how you use the resources you collect.

iPhone, iPad and Android
The mobile versions bring the digging concept to smartphones and tablets. Headup released the apps for iOS and Android. The iOS version also supports compatible gamepads and offers controls adapted to touch input.
These should not be confused with the separately sold PC and console versions.
