What is ACORN: Seed of Resistance?

ACORN: Seed of Resistance is a roguelike RPG with auto-battler combat from Guidelight Games. Players lead a small resistance of animal heroes through short expeditions, form groups and combine recruitment, equipment and synergies with permanent upgrades between runs.

The game is designed as a compact roguelike cycle: a single run should last about 15 minutes, while long-term progress comes from rebuilding your own order and unlocking new options.

Gameplay

Each expedition combines exploration with automatically resolved fights. The focus is therefore less on direct input in combat and more on preparation: which characters come along, which abilities complement each other, which equipment and relics are taken and how much risk is worth it along the way?

The short runs lead through procedurally generated areas with enemies, loot, events and branching paths. Defeats end the current run but feed the long-term progress of the resistance.

Party, heroes and synergies

The group consists of recruited resistance fighters with their own roles. Abilities, equipment and found relics form builds that can scale in different ways – for example through summons, chain reactions or concentrating many reinforcements on a single especially strong hero.

Exploration and decisions

The procedurally generated world contains hidden areas, treasure, monster patrols and other risks. Resource management remains important: health, consumables and the decision when to set up camp or pursue a dangerous route affect your chances of success.

Encounters are also meant to include decisions with different consequences, so that a run is not determined by combat stats alone.

Order and meta progression

Between expeditions, a hidden base serves as the long-term home base. The fallen order is rebuilt step by step. New heroes, leaders and missions gradually expand the pool from which later runs can draw.

World and resistance

ACORN combines a grim fantasy setting with anthropomorphic animal characters. The resistance that gives it its name arises after the fall of an order, whose survivors seek new allies and rebuild their organization from the shadows.
