AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – nirvanA Initiative is a detective adventure from Spike Chunsoft. Six years after the discovery of half a corpse, its missing second half appears fresh and unchanged. Investigators Mizuki and Ryuki follow the trails of the unusual murder series.

They are supported by AI partners Aiba and Tama. The story combines interrogations and investigations with exploration of surreal dream worlds.

The PC version was released on Jun 24, 2022. In Europe, the console versions for PS4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One followed on Jul 8, 2022. In North America, these versions were already available on Jun 24.

This game is a sequel to AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES, released in 2019.

Native versions exist for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. On newer PlayStation and Xbox consoles, the older console version may be playable via backward compatibility. A separate native PS5 or Xbox Series version is not confirmed.

For PC, Steam and Windows distribution are officially listed.

The game splits its detective work between real crime scenes and the so-called Somnia. In reality, you search for clues and talk to other characters. In dream sequences, puzzles must be solved with unusual logic.

Switching between investigation, dialogue and dream world forms the core of the gameplay. The investigations provide new information for the next part of the story.

Spike Chunsoft released the costume sets Kimono, Monochrome and B-Movie Horror for the AI partners Aiba and Tama. The cosmetic content is available individually and as a combined DLC bundle.

On Steam there is also a Deluxe Edition with the main game, the three costume sets and the digital Complete Soundtrack. The separately offered costume bundle does not include the main game.

The PC minimum requirements are Windows 10 64-bit, Intel Core i7-3770, 4 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 460 with 2 GB VRAM, DirectX 11 and 20 GB of free storage.

8 GB RAM and a GeForce RTX 3060 are recommended. The recommended configuration also lists 20 GB of storage.

The investigation begins with a seemingly impossible discovery: a body half that disappeared six years ago turns up without having aged. Mizuki and Ryuki investigate the murders and come across the Nirvana Initiative that gives the game its name.

The mystery unfolds across various characters and events. If you want to discover the twists yourself, it's best to avoid spoilers from later story chapters.

Mizuki and Ryuki take over the investigation from different perspectives. Their artificial eye partners Aiba and Tama support them with special abilities and also accompany them into the Somnia.

The conversations and relationships of these four characters carry the story just as strongly as the actual murder cases.

Somnia are dream worlds that become accessible through the Psync process. They reflect other characters' thoughts and memories, but do not follow the usual rules of the real environment.

Here, interactions and unusual puzzle solutions take center stage. The adventure combines classic detective work with playable realms of thought.

In real-world investigation, you examine locations, talk to suspects and look for connections between seemingly contradictory events. Dialogue and found items drive the story's next step.

The game is therefore not a classic action game, but relies mainly on attention and piecing together information.

nirvanA Initiative is a single-player adventure. It focuses on a branching mystery narrative, dialogue and puzzles in the dream sequences.

The story picks up from the first part but also introduces new central characters, Ryuki and Tama.

The official details list English and Japanese voice acting and English on-screen text. Other published text languages are listed on Steam.

A German text version is not listed in the official language overview.

In Europe, the game also came out in physical versions distributed by Numskull Games.

According to Spike Chunsoft, the digital Complete Soundtrack includes 68 music tracks and almost four hours of game music. It was offered both separately and together with the main game in the Steam Deluxe Edition.

The three costume sets change the look of Aiba and Tama. They are not additional story chapters.
