What is Arcade Paradise?

Arcade Paradise combines a small business simulation with a collection of playable retro arcade machines. Set in 1993 at the King Wash laundromat in the fictional city of Grindstone, Ashley is meant to run the family business while the father is away, but discovers in the back room the potential for an arcade of their own.

Income from laundry, cleaning and arcade machines gradually builds a larger arcade area. Unlike a pure business simulation, players can not only buy and manage the machines but also play each of the more than 35 minigames themselves. Arcade Paradise was developed by Nosebleed Interactive and published by Wired Productions.

Platforms

Arcade Paradise has standalone versions for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch. All six were confirmed for Aug 11, 2022. PC stores such as Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG are distribution channels for the same PC platform and not additional native versions.

Nintendo lists the Switch version as also compatible with Switch 2 and reports no known compatibility issues. This is backward compatibility of existing Switch software, not a separately released native Switch 2 version.

The Arcade Paradise VR version, developed for 2024, is a separately available product for VR devices. It should not be classed as a free feature or as a native platform version of the original game.

Gameplay

The daily routine starts with tasks in the laundromat: accepting clothes, loading machines, collecting laundry, removing trash or doing other jobs. These tasks are played immediately. From the earnings, you can buy new arcade machines and gradually expand the arcade area.

The arcade machines are not mere decoration. They contain more than 35 different playable retro games with their own goals and high score tables. If you set records yourself, you spend time in the minigames while the management carries on. This creates the actual conflict of Arcade Paradise: earning money while also enjoying your own arcade.

DLCs and expansions

Several expansions add to the arcade machines of the base game. These include Smoke 'em with a lightgun variant, CyberDance EuroMix, Empathy and the licensed version Kung Fury: Street Rage. There are also Vostok Inc Pinball and other smaller arcade games.

According to the publisher, the High Score Edition combines the base game with all eight Arcade Paradise DLC packs. If you are only looking for individual arcade machines, you should therefore distinguish between the base version, separate add-on content and the edition. DLCs require the underlying game version and are not standalone full games.

The laundromat is more than a menu

King Wash remains a working laundromat during the renovation. Ashley deals with dirty laundry and carries out other jobs, rather than managing the income only through a spreadsheet. Taking out the trash, cleaning the toilets and keeping the business running are also part of the daily routine.

These are deliberately simple, recurring tasks, from which the starting capital for the arcade machines can be saved. The work is gradually supplemented by arcade revenue, but does not simply disappear from the idea of the game.

Expand the arcade and place machines

Ashley invests the earned money in new machines and more space. The offering grows from a few arcade machines into a proper arcade, where visitors play and generate income. New purchases also expand the selection of games you can try yourself.

Arcade Paradise is a light management sim. It is about steadily growing the business and handling ongoing tasks, not about an abstract factory chain with complicated supply routes or a separate economic strategy game.

Over 35 games from vector graphics to 32-bit

Each arcade machine contains its own playable minigame with controls, tasks and best scores. The collection draws on different eras of video game history, from simple vector graphics beginnings to more complex game ideas of the 32-bit era. The machines are meant to differ noticeably from each other and not serve merely as cosmetic variations.

Some games suit quick attempts, while others invite you to pursue missions or learn strategies for a better high score. Additional DLC arcade machines expand the base selection without replacing the central management of King Wash.

Co-op or versus on the same device

The building of King Wash and the ongoing management follow a single-player campaign. However, in several of the built-in arcade machines, up to four people can play locally together or against each other. This applies to suitable minigames, not to a freely accessible shared online laundromat.

Steam lists split screen or shared screen for PvP and co-op, as well as Remote Play Together. This means supported local multiplayer games can be played remotely via the Steam feature. It is not evidence of a standalone online co-op mode for all parts of the game.

Ashley, Gerald and the dream of an arcade room

In 1993, Ashley temporarily takes over responsibility for King Wash while father Gerald is away on the Riviera. His father's advice, given by phone, accompanies the expansion of the arcade, which contradicts his original ideas about the family business. In the English original, Gerald is voiced by Doug Cockle.

The scenario gives the economic and arcade game a personal motivation: instead of building a perfect laundromat, Ashley turns the unremarkable business into the meeting place for retro games in the town of Grindstone.

Language, jukebox and 90s sound

On PC, Steam and Epic Games Store offer eleven text languages, including German. Voice acting is offered in English, French and German. The details refer to the PC versions listed in each case and do not automatically confirm identical language packs on all consoles.

The soundscape includes music tracks from each arcade machine and a jukebox, whose songs deliberately reference pop and arcade culture of the early 1990s. The sound design ties the management routine to the retro theme of the collection.

Game series

Arcade Paradise is the base game of the series, released in 2022. The High Score Edition combines this base version with additional arcade machines. The separately sold Arcade Paradise VR expands the brand with a game designed for virtual reality. It is not just another native screen platform of the original.

The base game was developed by Nosebleed Interactive and published by Wired Productions. DLCs and editions should be kept apart from the full game by product type, even if they show the same arcade world.
