What is ASYLUM?

ASYLUM is a psychological first-person horror adventure from Senscape. As a former patient plagued by disturbing visions, you return to the sprawling Hanwell Mental Institute, investigate its past and follow a mystery story that focuses on atmosphere and puzzles rather than constant action.

The developers cite H. P. Lovecraft, classic Hammer horror and 1980s European horror cinema as influences. SOEDESCO estimates around ten hours for the main story.

Gameplay

The focus is on exploring the Hanwell Mental Institute, piecing together its story and classic adventure puzzles. Senscape uses a slow, tension-driven structure: rooms, objects and clues drive the investigation forward, while the presentation increasingly plays with the main character's perception.

The setting is the dilapidated Hanwell Mental Institute, whose maze-like rooms and past form the core of the game. The asylum is not just a backdrop but the central puzzle: the player reconstructs events from the past there and follows the visions of a former patient to the end.
