Gameplay
Yumia explores the continent of Aladiss with a research team, gathers resources and opens paths to previously inaccessible regions. The open world is tied to alchemy, combat and building bases: new materials unlock more recipes, which in turn provide tools or equipment for the next area.
On the road, you can set up camps where the group rests or cooks. Some events with companions only take place at these campsites.

Resonance Synthesis: How alchemy works
Crafting combines materials in an alchemy core. The Resonance Synthesis system evaluates which ingredients resonate with each other and what quality they have. Through these choices, players influence the properties and strength of the items.
Craftable items are not only for combat. Some help with exploration and supplies. Alchemy options grow with the ingredients you find and your progress in the game.

Real-time battles and group actions
In combat, characters switch between melee and ranged distance. The available abilities depend on how far the active character is from the enemy. Players can swap characters during a battle and, under certain conditions, use combined Friend Actions.
In addition, there are Mana Surge and personal special attacks. This sets the system apart from the turn-based battles of many older Atelier games.

Atelier building and camps
You can build your own bases from various walls, floors, roofs and furniture. If you don't want to construct yourself, you can use pre-made floor plans. According to Koei Tecmo, a studio's comfort value unlocks gameplay improvements.
Outside the base, camps allow cooking and resting. They are also the setting for certain companion events and make longer explorations independent of an immediate return trip.
