Gameplay

Batman's missions alternate between freeflow combat and silent pursuit. In close combat, you combine strikes, counters, dodges and technical gadgets without losing your attack rhythm.

In so-called Predator encounters, you use ledges, air vents and gadgets to take out armed enemies one by one. Detective mode helps you spot clues and possible dangers.

Hugo Strange controls Arkham City while rival groups divide up the prison district. Batman enters the area to stop Strange's plans and limit the growing danger to Gotham.

Joker, Two-Face, Penguin and other well-known characters pursue their own goals. The main plot ties these conflicts together, while many encounters and secrets lie outside the main missions.

Gotham as an open prison district

Arkham City is a freely explorable district within Gotham. Batman moves between buildings using grapnels and gliding. Rooftops, alleys and interiors form different locations.

The open structure makes room for chases, puzzles and side missions. For certain places you later need unlocked gadgets or additional hints.

Return to Arkham and later re-releases

Return to Arkham brings Arkham City together with Arkham Asylum in reworked form to PS4 and Xbox One. The collection is not the same product version as the original game for PS3, Xbox 360 or PC.

An older console version that can run on newer hardware is not automatically a native PS5 or Xbox Series release.
