What is Beat Saber?

Beat Saber is a VR rhythm game by Beat Games. Colored notes fly toward the player in time with the music and are sliced with two virtual sabers in the indicated direction. The levels are hand-crafted to match the music; alongside solo play there is a campaign, leaderboards and multiplayer.

Flux: Hand tracking, new campaign and progression

With Flux, Beat Saber gets a new single-player mode in spring 2027 that puts hands instead of sabers at the center. The Flux Tether connects both hands and slices notes on the beat; other targets are hit with individual hands. Hits build Jolt energy, which can be triggered with a fist bump. Flux starts with 35 songs and, in addition to hand tracking, still supports controllers.

At the same time, Beat Games is reworking the campaign with a lighter story, new barriers, missions and checkpoints. For the first time, there is also a permanent progression and reward system with unlockable sabers, notes, bombs, profile badges and banners, plus a new inventory and a revised user interface. Full hand tracking is also set to be available outside Flux for the entire song library.
