What is BUZZ or DIE?

BUZZ or DIE is a narrative point-and-click adventure about a deadly entertainment show. The participants are people sentenced to death, to whom the format promises a pardon. Instead of classic fights, they must pick apart the stories of their opponents and win over an audience with short videos.

The game combines conversation, exploration and sharp media satire. It is developed by the Japanese solo developer BON and published by Kodansha.

Release

Kodansha announces the PC release for Oct 28, 2026 in Japan. On the internationally accessible Steam page, however, Oct 27, 2026 is shown. The different display can be explained by regional time zones; the sources do not indicate two different game versions.

A free demo with the complete introductory episode has been available since Oct 13, 2026. It serves as an introduction and is not equivalent to a full version that has already been released.

Platforms

Confirmed is a native Windows PC version via Steam. Kodansha's product page and the October release announcement explicitly name this platform. A standalone console version is therefore not confirmed. Steam still lists the main game as not yet released.

The demo has its own download in the PC store. A demo listing is not an additional native platform and does not establish a second full version.

Gameplay

Each round of the game show follows a chain of information: players investigate an opponent's inner life, find compromising clues and decide how to sharpen this material for the public. The result is presented in the game as a short video. Whether the audience is convinced decides success or defeat.

The mechanics focus on point-and-click investigations and on choosing the image and text impact of a video thumbnail. It is therefore not a classic real-time combat test.

Mental locations and secrets

Information about rivals isn't gathered in dialogue alone. Participants can enter a digital representation of their opponents' consciousness. There, past experiences, relationships and hidden motives can be explored. Only the facts found create material for the later appearance before the audience.

The publisher describes the investigation sections as point-and-click exploration. Clues and personal stories are the central resource.

How short videos change the outcome

After researching, players choose how they want to portray an opponent. Kodansha names several thumbnail styles, from which different short videos are created in the game. The actual scoring is handled by a fictional audience based on its reactions and likes.

This structure turns collecting evidence into the logic of social platforms: not only what is known, but how it is packaged publicly, is part of the game system. Specific chances of winning or numerical values are not guaranteed in the official information.

The show's participants

The player character is forced to take part together with Sagishima, a former leader of a religious community. Other candidates have troubled pasts and appear in pairs. Kodansha names, among others, a former entertainer, a hacker, members of a military family and other people with difficult pasts.

The characters' relationships are not just backdrop: because their secrets become material for the show, their stories drive each investigation.

Victory, defeat and narrative consequences

The winner of the show is said to receive a pardon and the fulfilment of one wish. For losers, according to the game world, the threat is not only execution but also the permanent use of their identity as the model for a line of work androids.

This dystopian consequence explains the story stakes. The developers promote a drama and suspense story, not a demonstrably open multiplayer competition: Steam lists single-player only.

Languages and voice acting

Steam lists the interface and subtitles in Japanese, English and Simplified Chinese. Full voice acting is currently shown there for Japanese only. In October 2026, Kodansha announced full voice acting for the characters.

A German localisation is not listed in the official PC details. “Fully voiced” therefore does not automatically mean multiple audio tracks.

Scope of the free demo

According to Kodansha, the free Steam demo covers the introductory episode of the game show, including voice acting. As a guide, the publisher gives roughly half an hour of playtime. This offers a look at characters, investigations and presentation, but does not indicate the length of all chapters in the full game.

The developers released the demo ahead of the planned main game. The official sources reviewed do not confirm whether, or which, progress will carry over.

Content warnings

The game world explicitly features death sentences, public humiliation and psychological violence. Developers and publisher point to violence and gore, as well as potentially distressing themes. The adult subject matter is a fundamental part of the story being told, not a one-off event.

Development, publishing and design

Japanese indie developer BON (凡) designed the game; Kodansha handles publishing through its Game Creators’ Lab division. According to the publisher, the character illustrations come from manga artist 岡田淳司. In October 2026, the Japanese voice cast was revealed along with the second official trailer.

These roles are separate across game development, visual design and publishing. A larger external studio development or additional native platform ports are not confirmed.
