Cassette Beasts is an open-world RPG by Bytten Studio. On New Wirral, creatures are captured on cassettes and used in battle as their own forms.

The PC version was released on April 26, 2023. Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S followed on May 25, 2023. Since January 15, 2025, native versions for iOS and Android are also available.

The mobile versions are standalone ports and have their own feature set compared to PC and consoles.

Gameplay

Creatures are captured on cassettes and then used in battle as their own forms. The turn-based combat system combines types, status effects and elemental interactions.

Two forms can be fused. Outside of battle, certain abilities open new paths through New Wirral and help solve environmental puzzles.

DLCs and expansions

Pier of the Unknown expands New Wirral with Brightside Pier, its own story, three amusement park attractions, twelve additional creatures and new cosmetic options.

Smaller cosmetic packs such as Cosplay Pack, Fashion Pack and Wings Pack also came out.

System requirements

Steam lists at least Windows 10, a processor with two or more cores at 2 GHz, 8 GB RAM, a graphics card with 2 GB VRAM and OpenGL 3.3, and 2 GB of storage. Recommended are an AMD Ryzen 5 or comparable processor and a graphics card with 4 GB VRAM, such as the GeForce GTX 970.

Local co-op and online multiplayer

The base game supports local co-op for two players. Since the free multiplayer update of May 20, 2024, up to eight players can also team up in one world on PC and consoles, trade cassettes, duel and join forces against Rogue Fusions.

Mobile versions

The iOS and Android versions were released on Jan 15, 2025. They initially offer a free demo, followed by the full game purchase.

Bytten Studio notes that these versions do not include the online multiplayer of the PC and console versions and do not support cross-save with them.
