What is Coffee Talk?

Coffee Talk is a narrative café simulation by Toge Productions. In a café in Seattle at night, players serve unusual regulars, listen to their conversations and prepare suitable hot drinks. In this city, people live alongside elves, orcs, mermaids and other fantasy creatures.

The focus is on the guests' relationships and how drinks affect their personal stories, not on running a café as a business.

Gameplay

The story takes place mostly behind the counter. Guests talk about their daily lives, their relationships and their conflicts. During conversations, the barista takes orders and combines the available ingredients into drinks.

Instead of defeating enemies or building a café, the task is to listen carefully and understand what guests want. The gameplay is designed around calm dialogue and individual decisions in preparing drinks.

Recipes, ingredients and latte art

The available ingredients make coffees, teas and other hot drinks. Anyone who tries the mixes discovers new recipes and expands the recipe collection. Creating patterns in milk foam is also part of preparing drinks.

Taking an order is more than a brief skill test: which drink a guest receives can affect the course of their story.

A fantasy city with everyday worries

The guests come from different walks of life. Among them are an elf and a succubus whose relationship is troubled, as well as an alien who wants to understand human habits. The fantasy characters talk about topics that are familiar outside this world too.

The conversations are spread over several evenings. Anyone who returns brings their own story into the café.

How do drinks affect the story?

Coffee Talk changes individual storylines through the drinks served to the guests. The barista often makes the key decisions while mixing the ingredients, rather than through a classic choice between several dialogue answers.

Different orders can trigger further conversations and different developments. This creates replay value without the game giving up its calm storytelling.

Pixel art and music

The characters and backdrops appear as detailed pixel art, with a style inspired by 1990s anime series. The café is the recurring setting, while the mood and conversations change from evening to evening.

Jazzy, lo-fi-inspired music accompanies the dialogue and the mixing of drinks.
