Gameplay

The story is experienced from an isometric 2D perspective. Players search buildings, examine objects and documents, discover hidden passages and combine clues to open new areas. Direct confrontations remain risky, as ammunition and healing items are scarce.

The gameplay builds on the survival horror of the first game: how you manage your resources can be just as important as quick reactions in combat.

Control up to three characters

In certain sections of the game, you can switch between up to three playable characters. Their different positions in the game world can be crucial for puzzles and for sharing scarce supplies. A shared item box lets you exchange items between characters.

This system is an announced core mechanic. How often the story invites you to switch between several characters has not yet been fully described.

Inventory, carry weight and equipment

The inventory has a weight limit: weapons and equipment affect your mobility. Healing items can be combined to create stronger supplies, and weapons can be upgraded with parts.

According to the developers, the arsenal ranges from knives and axes to submachine guns and flamethrowers. Damage, status effects, attack speed and weight all differ. That is why the strongest weapon is not automatically the best choice for every situation.

Presentation and music

Compared to its predecessor, Retrofiction Games promises more detailed sprites, more animation frames and isometric 2D environments throughout. The developer also mentions a soundtrack with more than 45 tracks.

The shift from the original's top-down view to the new presentation is a long-term change to the game's visual structure, not just an added graphics filter.
