What is Deadly Days: Roadtrip?

Deadly Days: Roadtrip is an action roguelite in which a bus full of survivors drives through a zombie apocalypse. At each stop you fight ever-larger hordes in a 2.5D pixel world, collect weapons and fuel, and decide when it is time to move on. The loot is just as important as the fights: in the limited backpack, items must be arranged so that their effects boost each other.

Gameplay

In each stage, you fend off waves of zombies and search for useful equipment. Attacks and movement must work together as the number of enemies rises. The bus connects the sections: you search for fuel, decide whether to retreat and move on to the next stop. Because routes and enemy encounters vary, different runs emerge.

DLCs and expansions

The Supporter Pack is sold separately from the base game. A soundtrack with music from Deadly Days: Roadtrip is also offered separately. Both should be distinguished from the full main game. Local co-op, the zombie campaign and the 1.0 content belong to the actual game.

Backpack, equipment and synergies

The backpack is the most important tactical tool. Each weapon and object occupies squares in a grid. Some effects act on neighboring items or on specifically marked equipment. By rearranging, upgrading and combining items, very different attack and defense strategies emerge. A stronger item only helps if it also fits in your limited storage space.

Road trip, route choice and escape

Each trip consists of several stops that you choose yourself. The maps are assembled procedurally and can offer special enemies, traders or extra experience points. While you search for gas for the bus, you have to find the right moment to set off. Looting more promises equipment but increases the risk of being overwhelmed by the hordes.

Crafting weapons and upgrading items

Weapons range from melee tools to firearms and flamethrowers. With workbenches and combinations, equipment can be upgraded or combined into new items. Which survivors can you play?

Rescued characters join your group and open up new ways to play. They bring their own traits and special equipment options. One example is the vampire, who starts without a starting weapon and gains more bats with each level up. They attack enemies up close and can regain health.

Zombie hordes and boss fights

Regular zombies, elite enemies and final bosses require different equipment strategies. In later stages, the characters come under greater pressure. The bosses include Laz, a former IT freelancer who has built a hostile robot army from cleaning robots. The fight against him is one of the core features of the full version.

The base camp between runs

Between trips, you return to the base camp. There you unlock upgrades, manage supplies and prepare further trips. A coffee stand provides temporary benefits for movement and loot searching. Long-term unlocks and new survivors ensure that even a failed run can change the next attempt.

What's behind the zombie apocalypse?

The fast-food chain MKing is at the center of the story behind the outbreak. After several trips, you can prepare a major mission against the corporate headquarters. To do so, you collect bomb parts and break into the complex. The story gives the repeatable trips a fixed goal that goes beyond simply surviving one more night.
