Dome Keeper

4 years agoSource: Steam

Dome Keeper combines roguelike mining and base defense: between waves of attacks, players search for resources under a dome and have to get back to the surface in time. Developed by Bippinbits, the game came out on PC in 2022 and natively on Xbox Series at the end of 2025. Co-op and versus modes, plus new keepers as an expansion, were added later.

What is Dome Keeper?

Dome Keeper combines a mining roguelite with defending a stationary dome. Between attack waves, players dig a network of tunnels, bring minerals and found technology to the surface and invest their loot in upgrades. An expedition that runs too long can leave the dome unprotected. That is why it matters not only what you find underground, but also when you decide to start heading back.

The Dresden developers Bippinbits developed the game from the game jam prototype Dome Romantik. Raw Fury is the publisher. The two-dimensional pixel graphics combine underground exploration with battles against creatures that attack in ever-new waves from the air and the ground.

Release

4 years agoSource: Steam

The PC release was on Sep 27, 2022. The standalone native version for Xbox Series X|S came out on Dec 9, 2025. A free major multiplayer update was added on Apr 13, 2026. The expansion The Lost Keepers was released at the same time.

For smartphone versions there are official store listings that show regionally different availability information. A specific, globally uniform release for iOS and Android therefore cannot be stated as a confirmed milestone.

Platforms

PC includes the native versions for Windows, macOS and Linux. Added to these are a standalone version for Xbox Series X|S with Xbox Play Anywhere, plus the iOS and Android versions from Raw Fury. The Xbox Store label for PC and Cloud is not a native Xbox One version.

In the German App Store, the iOS version has been listed as a paid game since October 2026, while some older regional Apple search results still show Dec 31, 2026 as the expected date. The date is therefore not a reliable global release date. Google Play also lists the Android version from Raw Fury. Mobile differences in multiplayer modes have not yet been fully confirmed.

Gameplay

Each run generates a new digging area with resources, caves and optional technical aids. The keeper drills tunnels and transports resources to the surface. There, the dome weapons, their armor, the drilling technology and mobility can be upgraded. Priorities depend on the situation: a faster drill shortens mining phases but does not help directly against projectiles during an attack.

The dome must be actively defended during recurring attack waves and repaired when needed. Different enemies attack via different routes. For new runs, players can choose keeper types, dome variants, main gadgets, difficulty levels and modifiers. Separate missions and other game objectives also exist.

DLCs and expansions

The Lost Keepers is a paid expansion released on Apr 13, 2026, alongside the free multiplayer update. It adds the playable keepers Infiltrator and Beast Master, with their own movement and mining approaches, plus new cosmetics, companions, missions and music. Access to co-op and versus does not require buying this DLC.

Separately, the Engineer Gear Pack and Assessor Gear Pack are offered on PC and Xbox. The earlier name Pioneer Pack is not another standalone expansion but the original name of today's Engineer pack. The soundtrack and bundles should not be confused with a separate base game.

For Windows, Steam lists at least a processor of around 2.5 GHz, 2 GB RAM, OpenGL 3.3-capable graphics and 1 GB storage. 4 GB RAM is recommended. The historical minimum of Windows 7 on the store page sits alongside the current fact that the Steam client has required Windows 10 or later since 2024.

The Steam version also lists native macOS and Linux requirements. For Mac, Intel processors and Apple M1/M2 hardware are mentioned. Steam also lists controller support and has verified the game for Steam Deck.

Co-op and versus

Since the free update of Apr 13, 2026, Dome Keeper supports cooperative and competitive multiplayer matches alongside solo runs. Co-op lets up to eight players search online together for resources and defend the dome. Local split-screen for up to four players is planned. Mixed forms with local and remote play are part of the announced feature set.

In versus, two teams compete against each other with their own domes. Depending on the rules, the win goes to the team whose dome is still standing last, or to the team that first delivers a set amount of resources. Actions against the opponent's resource supply and extra pressure from attack waves are part of the mode. Cross-platform multiplayer is listed on the Microsoft Store. Availability on mobile devices is therefore not confirmed.

Development and origins

Dome Keeper was created at Bippinbits, a small development team from Dresden. The starting point was Dome Romantik, made for a Ludum Dare game jam; from this, the developers, together with publisher Raw Fury, shaped the commercial version with an expanded build system, changed visuals and additional game systems.

Development continues through permanent modes and expansions. The April 2026 multiplayer update permanently changed the originally single-player core structure, rather than introducing a time-limited event.

Community features and platform services

The Microsoft Store lists Xbox cloud saves, achievements, Play Anywhere and several multiplayer variants. Not every feature can be transferred to mobile store versions without separate confirmation.

Mobile versions

The versions for iPhone, iPad and Android are listed in the official German app stores. Dome Keeper is offered for purchase in the German Apple App Store. The version history there lists version 1.0 on Sep 7, 2026 and version 1.0.2 on Sep 16. Apple currently lists iOS or iPadOS 26.0 as the minimum requirement. According to the store, the app is 1.1 GB and supports German.

Google Play lists a standalone Android version from publisher Raw Fury. Whether the mobile versions offer all the multiplayer features of the PC and Xbox versions cannot be confirmed from these store listings.
