What is Dungeon Munchies 2?

Dungeon Munchies 2 continues maJAJa's side-scrolling action RPG. A revived chef fights through the ruins of an abandoned space colony and turns defeated alien creatures into dishes that grant new powers. Behind the grotesque kitchen is a sequel story: necromancer Simmer wants to build a restaurant chain on the other side of a stargate, while the zombie chef catches monsters, fights his way clear and gathers ingredients.

Release

in 6 daysSource: Steam

maJAJa announces Nov 6, 2026 as the start of PC Early Access. The current Steam product listing instead gives Nov 5; the regional unlock time is therefore not yet clearly explained. The first playable version is to include the first story chapter, around two to three hours of play. Further chapters, abilities and enemies are to follow later. The full version has no fixed date yet. The studio roughly expects a development phase of similar length to the first game, about two to three years, explicitly as a non-binding estimate.

Platforms

On Steam, Windows PC and macOS are listed with their own hardware details. Both count as the PC version. The game is listed as single-player and supports Steam Cloud and the Steam Workshop. Releases on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch or mobile devices have so far not been officially confirmed for Dungeon Munchies 2. That the first Dungeon Munchies exists on additional devices does not confirm a corresponding sequel.

Trailer

A space restaurant as the starting point

Simmer and the other familiar characters continue their unusual venture after the end of the first Dungeon Munchies. Instead of an ordinary underground facility, a derelict space colony is now the setting. The zombie chef is to collect and cook foreign creatures to make a restaurant beyond the stargate a success. According to the developer, the story picks up directly from the previous game's finale; the character does not need to unlock previously gained abilities such as double jump and air dash again.

Classes replace the old weapon system

A structural change is the new class system. In the first Dungeon Munchies there was one main and one secondary weapon slot. The sequel replaces this split with classes, each with four ability slots, which are meant to change the combat style more than a simple weapon swap. Sample equipment from the announcement includes a plasma spatula and a suit that lets you throw flaming skewers. Which combination ultimately prevails depends on the available abilities and enemies.

Monsters as ingredients and ability source

After battles, alien creatures become ingredients for meals. Cooking thus remains the link between fights and character development. For the sequel, maJAJa describes an expanded nutrient absorption system meant to combine different monster dishes and effects. The exact selection of available recipes may vary with progress, and discovering dishes is part of the role-playing character.

Random abilities alongside fixed talents

The first part unlocked new cooking abilities largely along story progress. Dungeon Munchies 2 keeps this fixed core and, according to maJAJa, adds randomly found abilities. As a result, rare powers may appear early in individual runs. However, the studio stresses that it is not a roguelike: an additional talent system is meant to stop progress depending solely on lucky drops. Players can also offset difficulty by building up stats, rather than relying only on reflexes.

Labyrinth and monster hunting

The journey leads through abandoned parts of a space colony and into a winding labyrinth. There, new enemies, loot, equipment and story discoveries await. 2D movement, platforming sections and direct action combat form the framework. In Early Access only a limited chapter is initially meant to be open, so a fully explored playthrough or a completed storyline cannot yet be assumed.

Steam Workshop and cloud saves

The Steam product page lists the Steam Workshop and Steam Cloud as offered features. The Workshop entry alone does not yet confirm the scope or availability of specific modding tools at launch. Cloud saves and Steam achievements are also listed. Which additional convenience options the later full version gets is part of ongoing development and not yet fully documented.

Languages and system requirements

Steam currently lists English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese for interface and subtitles. A German translation is not currently confirmed for the sequel, although the first part is playable in German. The Windows minimum list names Windows 10 (64-bit), an Intel Core i5 and roughly 1 GB of free storage. Your RAM entry of 2 MB is clearly not suitable as a reliable minimum requirement and is not adopted here as a valid hardware value. For macOS, macOS 11, Apple M1 and 2 GB RAM are listed. All details may change during Early Access.

Development and classification as a sequel

Developer and publisher is the studio maJAJa. The first Dungeon Munchies started in 2019 in Early Access and reached its regular Steam release in July 2022. For the sequel the team again relies on open development with feedback from Steam and Discord. The scope of two to three hours announced early only applies to the first chapter of the Early Access version, not the planned total length.
