Dungeons 4

Dungeons 4 is a strategy game about building up a dark dungeon and conquering a fantasy overworld. You dig underground rooms, assemble an army of creatures and send them into battle against heroes, dwarves and other adversaries.

The focus is on Thalya, the general of the Absolute Evil. The story continues the series’ satirical tone and combines managing the dungeon with direct missions on the surface.

Dungeons 4 came out on Nov 9, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Nintendo Switch edition followed on Oct 17, 2024.

The Switch release offers extra cosmetic content and the Deluxe package with the “Storming of Dollaran” card, digital extras and more customization options.

Dungeons 4 was released natively for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The PC version is sold via Steam. A standalone PS4 or Xbox One version is not among the confirmed releases.

The scope and bundled extra content may differ between the original release and the Switch edition.

You dig tunnels, open up resources and build rooms where your minions work, train and are looked after. Traps and defences protect the underground realm from invading hero groups.

On the overworld you steer your creatures against enemy positions. The two levels are connected: a powerful army needs a working dungeon, and conquered territories drive your campaign forward.

Four major expansions introduce new stories and mechanics. “The Good, the Bad and the Evil” came out on Aug 8, 2024 with five missions in a Western region, more traps and new dwarf enemies.

“Not Another Multiverse” followed on Dec 10, 2024. The three-part mini campaign lets you control Tristan for the first time and build new hero buildings on the overworld. “Tales from the Campfire” came out on Jun 26, 2025 with four voiced missions and more abilities for Thalya. “Double Trouble” arrived on Dec 9, 2025 and expands the game with four missions, Dark Elves and a day-night cycle on the surface.

Kalypso Media lists Windows 10 64-bit as the minimum requirement, an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel Core i5-8400, 16 GB RAM, a DirectX 11 graphics card on the level of the GeForce GTX 960 with 4 GB VRAM and 12 GB storage.

For higher details in Full HD, the publisher recommends, among other things, a Ryzen 5 5600X or Core i7-10700 and a GeForce RTX 2070 or comparable graphics card. An SSD is recommended.

The underground is the economic base of your army. You build new rooms, place traps and adapt the layout to available resources and the needs of your creatures.

A stable supply keeps your own operations from stalling while you fight on the surface.

The army of the Absolute Evil is made up of several creature types. Horde, demons and undead have different strengths and place different demands on the dungeon. Their units can be upgraded during the campaign and combined strategically.

On the surface they meet heroes, dwarves and other defenders of good.

Thalya leads the troops of the Absolute Evil and plays a central role in the campaign. The story picks up characters and conflicts from the previous Dungeons games, but is also designed as a standalone entry point into dungeon management.

A commentating narrator accompanies the missions with humorous remarks.

The campaign links building dungeons with missions in different regions of the overworld. Apart from the story, you can play additional battle maps where you can try out your own strategies.

Switching between building and attacking remains the core principle in both modes.

Dungeons 4 supports co-op games for two people over the internet. The two players manage their forces together and face the challenges of the campaign or selected battles.

Co-op is online only. Local split screen is not among the listed features.

This expansion takes the story to a West occupied by dwarves. Five additional missions, armed dwarf units and steam locomotives change the fights on the surface. New traps and building options expand the underground.

In the expansion “Not Another Multiverse”, Thalya and her stepbrother Tristan must escape a foreign world together. Three new campaign missions introduce playable heroes under Tristan’s control for the first time. Also included are 15 hero buildings for the overworld, which allow you to recruit and upgrade new units.

“Tales from the Campfire” tells four standalone stories about Thalya, Tristan and the offspring of the Absolute Evil. The expansion adds four voiced missions and four abilities: “Bad Air”, “Unbeatable Horde”, “Hero Graves” and “Dark Side”.

“Double Trouble” pits Thalya and Tristan against alternate versions of themselves. Four campaign missions bring new Dark Elf units and more rooms. The extra day-night cycle on the overworld strengthens the Dark Elves at night.

The Switch version includes extra visual tweaks for Thalya, the little Schnodderlinge and the throne room. The Deluxe package also includes the “Storming of Dollaran” card, more skins, the official soundtrack and a digital artbook.

The Switch version came out just under a year after the PC and console release.

Dungeons 4 offers German and English voice audio, plus on-screen text in other languages. On PC, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Polish and Korean are available for subtitles or the interface, among others.

The voice actor also accompanies the campaign in the major story expansions.
