Time as a resource
Each run ends after a limited time. Collectibles extend the remaining time, which can also be spent on healing, acting or opening further paths. Knowing the area lets you avoid detours.
According to the developers, the world is fixed in design and not randomly generated. Repetition is therefore used for planning and discovery.

Knowledge instead of an upgrade ladder
The essential abilities are available from the start. What changes with each attempt is your understanding of how to use them and of the routes through Provenance. This sets the concept apart from Metroidvanias, where progress is mainly tied to permanent new items.

Provenance and its residents
The last Weaver explores Provenance, a colony damaged after a collapse. The characters include a leader who protects survivors, a religious preacher and a cat selling pizza. The conversations and locations gradually lead to the question of how the world became trapped in the time loop.
