Gameplay
Fortune's Weave keeps the turn-based grid battles and character-based development of the Fire Emblem series. The campaign is split across four parallel paths centered on Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda. You can switch between these storylines. Recruited characters later join a shared army, which brings the four perspectives together in the second half of the game.

DLCs and expansions
The paid Expansion Pass for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave has been available since Oct 15, 2026. The first content wave brings four prototype weapons that are reminiscent of the hero relics from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Dietrich receives a sword modeled on the Sword of Creation, Cai a lance modeled on Areadbhar, Theodora a bow modeled on Failnaught, and Leda an axe modeled on Aymr.
The equipment does not automatically appear in your inventory at the start of the campaign. Nintendo names side quests in Dagsion from Chapter 4 of the respective Hero's path as the regular route. In the later story section, weapons can be obtained during free time, depending on which paths have already been completed.
Winter 2026 brings three additional divine allies – Aurora, Smyrnos, and Jura – as announced. They can be deployed in the later campaign phase against Balor, but according to Nintendo they do not grow through ordinary level-ups. Four outfits, which allies can also wear, are also included. Exact unlock conditions for the gods are still to follow.
The third wave is planned for 2027. It expands the story with tales of the rivals Bertrand, Talimun, Orchel, and Anatolia, plus more allies and classes. An exact release date and the scope of the individual stories have not yet been confirmed. The pass is an add-on to the main game and requires the Nintendo Switch 2 version.

Dagda and the connection to Three Houses
Dagda lies south of Fódlan, the setting of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Nintendo and Intelligent Systems explicitly describe Fortune's Weave as a new game in the same world, rather than a simple sequel. The Dagdan Empire and its capital Dagsion were designed with influences from the ancient Mediterranean and deliberately set themselves apart from the atmosphere of Fódlan.

Brave techniques and Joy-Con 2 mouse controls
In turn-based grid battles, the position of units, their class, range, and equipment determine effective attacks. Special brave techniques can, for example, enable large-area attacks or unusual movement, but they consume HP from the character using them. For powerful actions, you must therefore also plan for the remaining health.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version also supports the mouse mode of the Joy-Con 2 controllers. This lets you select characters on the battlefield and call up information. Nintendo describes this as an alternative control scheme, which you can switch from and back to standard button controls during play.

Training, relationships, and exploration between battles
Between strategic battles, you organize your army in and around Dagsion. As the Hero's journey progresses, weekly training, new equipment, class tests, and encounters with potential allies are available. Gifts or shared meals help build relationships with characters. Some residents also offer quests with rewards.
Outside the city, there are separate exploration areas and dungeons. There you can find materials for upgrading weapons. Battles in these areas sometimes follow different rules than regular battles. This preparation is part of the permanent campaign structure and not a time-limited live event.

Game series
Fortune's Weave belongs to the Fire Emblem series and shares its world with Three Houses. The developers nevertheless wanted a standalone story, region, and atmosphere. The connection thus serves as world and series continuity, without simply continuing the plot of Three Houses.
