Interface and navigation

Football Manager 27 rearranges menus and important match information. Full-screen navigation saves trips between squad, tactics and club management. Flexible views adapt to different screen sizes and can be personalised further.

Familiar controls from earlier series entries stay where they make your day-to-day work as a manager easier.

Matchday presentation

The matchday presentation gets lasting enhancements: crowds react more strongly to match situations, stadiums and stands are shown in more detail, weather and time of day affect the atmosphere, and cutscenes should feel more varied. Player and manager models have also been reworked; Sports Interactive mentions new body models and hair physics, among other things.

Training and tactical effectiveness

Training in Football Manager 27 links preparation for the next opponent with the long-term development of individual players. First-team training sessions focus more on match preparation, teamwork and tactical patterns. Individual programmes for single pros are still possible.

If you want your side to play an intense press, for example, you can train the relevant patterns. For young talents, you need to weigh personal development against the immediate demands of the next match. The training area is reached directly from the main navigation.

Tactics and Match Engine

FM27 expands in-match tactical control. Player movement, position changes and reactions to possession have been reworked. The new Match Engine uses additional motion capture and material from the collaboration with Hawk-Eye Innovations.

Players with suitable attributes perform demanding dribbles and feints more often. Tactical adjustments let you set your squad to the opponent's behaviour during a match.

How Tactical Effectiveness works

Tactical Effectiveness shows how well a squad understands and carries out the chosen game plan. Four factors feed in: tactical understanding, player ability, their belief in the playing style, and information about the next opponent.

The indicators appear in Tactics, Training and Transfers, among other places. Scouting reports also help you judge whether a new signing fits your existing instructions. Staff changes, performances and match preparation can all change tactical effectiveness.

Simple and advanced play systems

Tactical Complexity measures how many instructions a play system includes, and how demanding they are. A squad with little tactical experience can fail with a detailed plan, even if it looks sensible on paper.

Simple systems are quicker to put into practice, but leave less room for development. More demanding pressing or positional patterns need suitable players and more training time. That means your match idea also shapes which new pros you sign.
