What is Garfield – Escape from Monday?
Garfield – Escape from Monday is a single-player jump 'n' run in three-dimensional comic worlds. The player character jumps over obstacles, climbs, rolls up and overcomes enemies. The gameplay combines classic platforming sections with special movement abilities and collection tasks. The standalone game was developed by OSome Studio and published by Microids.
The well-known comic character does not experience free everyday simulation: the levels lead through a nightmare whose rules repeatedly force Garfield into unfamiliar abilities. Alongside making progress through the worlds, there is a second task: collecting, because found items can be used to remodel Jon's house.

Gameplay
Garfield moves through three-dimensional platforming sections with obstacles, enemies and collectible items. His basic movements include jumping, climbing walls and rolling up into a ball. Some passages use additional abilities linked to special costumes.
The focus is therefore on mastering levels rather than racing as in Garfield Kart. During play, Garfield also encounters boss enemies and can collect objects used later to change Jon's house.

Garfield's nightmare after the spinach lasagna
Jon serves Garfield a spinach lasagna made from Chef Monday's recipe. Instead of the hoped-for meal, the cat begins a nightmare full of vegetables, enemies and candy-free indignities. To wake up and get his sense of taste back, he must cross the dream world and collect lasagna.
The framing story explains the deliberately exaggerated environments. Food motifs determine not only the backdrops but also many of the collectibles and obstacles.

Three costumes with different abilities
Garfield gets three special costumes: Turkey, Surfer and Cowboy. As Turkey, he can glide briefly through the air, the Surfer allows him to move over water, and with the Cowboy lasso he swings across chasms. These abilities complement the usual jumping, climbing and rolling.
Certain paths and obstacles therefore depend on the matching type of movement. According to Microids, all three disguises are part of the game and not separately sold expansions.

Three worlds and over 40 levels
Microids names three large worlds with over 40 levels in total. The sections include platforming obstacles, enemies and lasagna to collect. Various boss fights also await Garfield. The combination of regular movement and costume abilities changes the demands from one passage to the next.
The game therefore follows a fixed level structure. It is not an open sandbox where you could move freely through the entire comic world.

Jon, Odie, Pooky and Garfield's rivals
The adventure features other familiar characters from the comic universe besides Garfield. Jon, Odie and Pooky are among the supporting characters, and Microids also names Arlene. Nermal and Squeak are listed as possible antagonists.
The cast clearly anchors the new dream story in Garfield's world. However, the publisher describes Garfield himself as the playable lead; the listed companions are no evidence of additional controllable co-op characters.

On PC, Steam also lists achievements and cloud saves. These are convenience features of each platform and not an indication of a shared multiplayer mode.

Game series
The adventure draws on characters and motifs from Jim Davis' Garfield universe, but uses them for a standalone 3D platformer. The publisher's rights notice names Paws, Inc. and Nickelodeon; the game was developed by OSome Studio and published by Microids.
The bundle with Garfield Kart: Furious Racing offered on Steam consists of two separate games. It makes Escape from Monday neither a racing game nor an expansion of Garfield Kart.
