Gori: Cuddly Carnage

Gori: Cuddly Carnage is a gory action game in which an artificially created cat fights mutated toys on an armed hoverboard. The mix of fast melee combos, jumping sections and dark humor is set in a brightly colored future world where humanity was wiped out by the so-called Adorable Army.

Gori sets out with the talking hoverboard F.R.A.N.K. and the artificial intelligence CH1-P to find her missing creator, Professor Y.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage was released on Aug 29, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. All six versions belong to the same main game.

The action game was released natively for Windows PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. On PC, it is available via Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store, among others. The console versions are standalone platform versions and cannot merely be played via backward compatibility.

Gori combines fast-paced combat with movement maneuvers on F.R.A.N.K. The hoverboard serves as both a means of transport and a blade weapon. Players glide through attacks, chain hits into longer combos and dodge enemies with slides, jumps and grinds. Unlockable maneuvers and explosive weapons add variety.

For Gori: Cuddly Carnage there are additional costume packs, such as Neon Neko and Dragon. On Steam, a digital soundtrack and an artbook are also offered separately. These add-ons do not change the main game. The physical Deluxe release includes collectible extras such as a poster, stickers and a code for music.

The PC version requires at least Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i5 6th gen or AMD Ryzen 3, 4 GB RAM and a graphics card on the level of a GeForce GTX 1050 or Radeon RX 560. Recommended are a Core i7 10th gen or Ryzen 5, 8 GB RAM and a GeForce RTX 2060 or Radeon RX 5600 XT. 8 GB of storage space is planned for installation.

The company Cool-Toyz Inc. developed artificial pets, but a mutation turned its creations into murderous toys. The Adorable Army has wiped out humanity. Gori is one of the last synthetic companions to stand against them. F.R.A.N.K. comments on the journey with biting remarks, while CH1-P completes the unusual team.

The journey leads through neon-lit streets, poisoned factories, eerie fairgrounds and bizarre arcade environments. Each location demands skill at jumping and navigating as well as combat. Dangerous obstacles and larger enemies interrupt the fast passages on the hoverboard.

Off the direct path, the levels hide collectibles. Players who reach new routes using hoverboard maneuvers can unlock, among other things, extra outfits, fur variants and image filters for Gori. The game thus also rewards exploring the sections.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage is a single-player adventure. The PC version offers Steam achievements and Steam Cloud saves. A co-op or competitive multiplayer mode is not part of the main game.

The PC version supports German menus, German voice audio and German subtitles. Other text languages are available besides English. Steam lists, among other things, an adjustable difficulty level, changeable text size and separate volume sliders as accessibility options.

The soundtrack accompanies the fast pace with changing musical styles. Steam lists 48 tracks for the game. The contrast between bright toy-like visuals and graphic violence defines the style. The game is explicitly aimed at an adult audience.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage was developed by Swedish studio Angry Demon Studio and published by Wired Productions. The two companies announced their collaboration in 2022. For the Chinese market, Steam additionally lists CouchPlay Interactive as publisher.
