Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – The Definitive Edition

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – The Definitive Edition is the technically reworked version of the open-world action game about Tommy Vercetti. It is set in Vice City, a coastal metropolis inspired by Miami and the 1980s. Between car chases, criminal deals and story missions, you can explore the city freely.

Released Nov 11, 2021 as part of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. The PC version first launched on the Rockstar Games Launcher and was additionally released on Steam on Jan 19, 2023. Standalone mobile versions followed for iOS and Android on Dec 14, 2023.

The reworked version is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Standalone mobile versions exist for iOS and Android. The PS4 and PS5 versions, as well as the Xbox One and Xbox Series versions, remain separate native releases.

Vice City combines free driving through the city with set story missions, shootouts and car chases. Cars and motorbikes are central to getting around. Beyond the main story, there is room to explore the streets and districts on your own.

Rockstar lists at least Windows 10 in the 64-bit version, an Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD FX-6300, 8 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 760 or Radeon R9 280. Recommended are 16 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 970 or Radeon RX 570. Rockstar lists 45 GB of free storage, while Steam lists 10 GB.

In Vice City, Tommy Vercetti gets caught between rival criminal groups and tries to build his own territory. Betrayal and revenge drive the story. The plot and its 1980s setting come from the original Vice City.

The Definitive Edition reworks lighting and environment visuals, raises texture resolution and extends the draw distance. Rockstar aligned controls and targeting more closely with Grand Theft Auto V. The core missions and the story remain intact.

Vice City is one of three games in the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition collection. The other two parts are Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. A purchase option for the entire trilogy includes more than Vice City alone. The classic original and its technically reworked version are different products.

The versions for iPhone, iPad and Android came out in Dec 2023. Rockstar names a mode with classic lighting for them, which picks up the lighting mood of the earlier versions. The mobile games are standalone releases.

The PC version offers German on-screen text and subtitles. Full voice acting is available in English. The original dialogue voices were not replaced with a German dub for the remaster.
