Grim Legends 3: The Dark City

Grim Legends 3: The Dark City is a single-player adventure with hidden-object scenes and classic puzzles. Monster hunter Sylvia follows the stolen Incarceri Stone to the Gothic city of Lichtenheim. The artefact is said to keep the creature Koshmaar imprisoned, while Sylvia's own memory of the past has gaps.

Released on Jun 2, 2016 for PC. The PS4 version followed on May 10, 2018, the Xbox One version on May 11, 2018, and the Switch version on Nov 13, 2020. The game also came out for iPhone and iPad in 2016.

Grim Legends 3 has been released for PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android. On Steam, the PC license covers Windows, macOS and Linux. On PS5, the PS4 version is playable, and on Xbox Series X|S, the Xbox One version is playable. These are not standalone releases for this console generation.

You explore locations, search for objects and combine clues. Some finds solve a problem straight away, while others only become important later at another location. Hidden-object tasks alternate with small brain teasers and encounters that drive Sylvia's search for the artefact forward.

An additional story expands the main adventure. For the PC version there is also the separately available Artbook & Soundtrack package from November 30, 2017. It includes an English-language digital artbook with 80 pages and ten music tracks, but no new playable campaign.

For Windows, Steam lists at least a 2 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, 256 MB graphics memory and 2 GB free storage. The recommended setup includes 2.5 GHz, 2 GB RAM and 512 MB graphics memory. The historical OS details come from the original release, while the current Steam client requires newer Windows versions.

Sylvia and her mentor Solomon search Lichtenheim for the Incarceri Stone. Its theft threatens the binding of Koshmaar. At the same time, Sylvia uncovers secrets from her own past. The story links her memory gaps to the question of who took the artifact.

Lichtenheim is the central setting of the monster hunt. The drawn locations range from winding interiors to gloomy outdoor backdrops. Mask spirits and supernatural threats are part of the town's story, not just decoration.

36 hand-drawn places make up the game world. Players move through connected scenes, collect items and return to previously visited areas when new clues appear.

In hidden object tasks, you search for required items in detailed pictures. They sit alongside regular investigations and unlock further story steps. The game combines the search tasks with the use of inventory items.

Small logic and dexterity tasks interrupt the search. Mechanisms, locked paths and items are solved by thinking rather than real-time combat. The developer lists 36 mini-games and hidden object scenes in total.

Grim Legends 3 is a pure single-player adventure. The story around Sylvia and Solomon cannot be played co-op. On Steam, achievements, cloud saves and trading cards are among the supported features.

The PC version has German on-screen text and German subtitles. Full voice acting is available in English. PlayStation also lists English voices and German on-screen text, while Nintendo lists seven on-screen languages including German.

The iOS and Android versions use touch controls. The start is available as a free trial, and the full story can be unlocked within the app. iPhone and iPad share the same iOS app.

The town, the creatures and the music create the gloomy atmosphere. The game relies on an ongoing crime story with fantasy elements, hand-painted images and puzzles. Fast combat or extensive RPG systems are not the focus.
