Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2 is an online role-playing game by ArenaNet set in the fantasy world of Tyria. Players explore large areas, solve personal stories and take part in dynamic events that can be completed together with other players even without a fixed group.

The base game is free to access, with no purchase price and no ongoing subscription fee. Paid expansions add new regions, stories and long-term game mechanics. The permanent offering includes PvE, structured PvP and large-scale World vs. World battles.

Guild Wars 2 was released for PC on Aug 28, 2012. The Steam release followed on Aug 23, 2022.

Windows PC is the native platform of Guild Wars 2. The MMORPG is offered through the ArenaNet client and Steam. According to Steam, existing Guild Wars 2 accounts cannot simply be used for Steam sign-in. Expansions therefore need to match the account and store access you use.

A permanent internet connection is required. The PC release through another store is not an additional console version. The checked official product pages do not list any native versions for PS5, Xbox Series or Nintendo Switch.

In Tyria, players explore open regions, help with heart quests and react to dynamic events. Strangers can also take part together in world bosses. Crafting, gathering, special gear and personal stories complement the combat.

The six expansions are Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, End of Dragons, Secrets of the Obscure, Janthir Wilds and Visions of Eternity. They add their own stories, regions and permanent abilities. Their systems include gliding, mounts, fishing, lodgings and new combat specializations.

Steam lists at least 8 GB RAM, DirectX 11, a broadband connection and 70 GB of storage. The product page offers German menu text and German voice audio. The current Steam client requires Windows 10 or newer.

Living World links the major Guild Wars 2 expansions into one ongoing story. Since the change in Oct 2026, the five seasons are no longer sold individually: Seasons 1 and 2 belong to the free base game. For Season 2, players need a character at level 80.

Seasons 3 and 4 are unlocked together with the bundle of Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire. Season 5, The Icebrood Saga, is tied to End of Dragons. If you already own these expansions, you automatically receive the missing related episodes. The Elder Dragon Saga collection combines the first three expansions with Seasons 3 to 5; the Complete Collection contains all six expansions. These are access packages and story content, not additional native games or platform versions.

The chosen profession and equipped weapons determine many combat skills. Dodging and attacking while moving are among the basic mechanics. With traits and later specializations, you can build different roles and playstyles.

Guild Wars 2 is accessible through the ArenaNet client and through Steam. The official Steam page notes that existing Guild Wars 2 accounts cannot be used with the regular Steam sign-in. When buying an expansion, you need to check that you have the matching account access.

Shared world events and organized group challenges form the cooperative part of the game. In structured PvP, teams compete against each other in arenas. World vs. World offers large battlefields with fortresses and strategic objectives.
