Why monster positions matter

Enemies don't simply stand in a fixed row. You can move them around the arena, pull them together and bring them into range of area attacks. Sometimes a positioning card is more important than an immediate hit.

Building your card deck

During a run, you add to and upgrade your deck. Your choices determine whether you mainly take out single enemies, hit whole groups or protect your teammates. Cards whose effects strengthen each other are especially useful.

Co-op for up to three heroes

In online co-op, two or three people can fight together. Cards affect not only your own figures but can also support teammates and prepare enemies for their actions. Teamwork is therefore a core part of the combat system.

Solo play with computer-controlled companions

HELLCARD can also be played solo. You can explore the dungeons without human teammates and hire computer-controlled companions when needed. This keeps the core team combinations accessible in single-player mode too.

Different hero classes

Hero classes have their own cards and playstyles. Which attack, defence or support effects you prefer affects the makeup of your team. A build tuned for several players can enable attacks that would be harder to use alone.

Paper dungeons and random encounters

The dungeons appear in the style of an unfolding paper book. Random enemies and encounters change the challenges between runs. Between fights, you can use rest spots, find artefacts and discover new events.

Chains of attack and support

Combinations are especially powerful when one card first pushes or pins enemies and another then hits several targets. In co-op, different heroes can prepare this sequence together.
