What is Monster Train 2?

Monster Train 2 is a turn-based roguelike deckbuilder in which you use units and spell cards to defend your train's hellfire. Enemies fight their way up across three stacked floors. After a defeat, a new run begins with different card combinations.

Gameplay

Monster Train 2 combines deckbuilding and defence across three train floors. Enemies advance from bottom to top, while your units intercept attacks and spell cards influence the fight. The placement before an enemy attack decides which unit takes damage.

New cards and upgrades are gained during the run. A strong deck has to account for the limited spaces on the train as well as the use of game resources.

The Punished: Pain as a tactic

The Punished is an additional clan led by Archus. Its abilities reward deliberately injuring your own units. Punish triggers effects from self-inflicted damage, while Bloodshed reacts to injuries to allied units on the same floor.

Chained also passes damage on to opponents. Tenacious protects certain allies from lethal damage caused by your own abilities. This creates risky decks that reverse the usual defensive rules.

Monolith, Devotion and Zeal

In The Punished, you can spend Ember and discard cards to make offerings to the Monolith. This raises Devotion over the course of a run.

Higher Devotion strengthens certain cards and gives newly summoned units Zeal. This effect increases attack and maximum health, so earlier sacrifices enable stronger units later.
