What is Moss: The Forgotten Relic?

Moss: The Forgotten Relic is the newly staged flatscreen version of Quill's fantasy adventure. Polyarc and Blackbird Interactive bring Moss, Moss: Book II and the chapter Twilight Garden together into one connected journey that can be played on PC and consoles without a VR headset.

The focus remains on the bond between Quill and the so-called Reader. Quill explores a fairytale world shaped by ruins and ancient magic, while the Reader directly intervenes in diorama-like rooms, moves obstacles, and assists with puzzles and combat.

Gameplay

The journey combines exploration, 3D platforming, light combat and handcrafted environmental puzzles. Quill moves directly through the world, while the Reader, as a second presence, manipulates objects, opens paths and supports Quill in dangerous situations.

The rooms remain deliberately built like small dioramas. Secrets and collectibles are hidden off the main path; if you want to focus on story and puzzles, you can skip combat using the accessibility option Skip Combat.

Newly staged complete version

The Forgotten Relic combines the content of Moss and Moss: Book II, including Twilight Garden, into a single, continuous version. To move from VR to traditional screens, presentation and camera were rethought: Polyarc cites improved graphics and performance, new handmade cutscenes, and a Smart Follow camera.

The story stays focused on Quill and the Reader, but is presented as a standalone PC and console game, rather than simply transferring the original VR perspective unchanged.

Play Together: local co-op

The free Play Together update adds a permanent local co-op mode for two people. One person takes on Quill and with it platforming, combat and direct exploration. The second person plays the Reader, intervenes in the environment, moves obstacles, helps with puzzles and protects Quill.

Each role uses its own controller. The mode is available on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and lets you play the entire journey together.
