What is Mutant Football League?

Mutant Football League is a wild American football game from Digital Dreams Entertainment. Monsters, skeletons, robots and other fantasy figures take part in seven-a-side matches. You choose plays, control your players and try to score more points than the opposing team despite traps and fouls.

Alongside touchdowns, absurd special moves and deliberately black humor shape the sport. Knocking out opposing players can also decide a match.

Gameplay

Mutant Football League combines American football in a seven-a-side format with direct arcade controls. You choose plays and lead your team across the field to gain yards and score touchdowns. At the same time, opponents interfere with the game using unfair means.

A win is not only possible through the score. If the opposing team is weakened by injuries and absences to the point that it cannot keep playing, the match also ends.

Dirty tricks are part of the game

With so-called dirty tricks, you can deliberately override ordinary football rules. Teams may, for example, bribe the referee or make players suddenly huge. Other maneuvers bring bombs or dangerous weapons into play.

The special moves are part of tactical preparation. Anyone who knows their effect and the right moment can turn a seemingly lost situation around.

Stadiums with deadly traps

The fields in Mutant Football League are packed with traps and other hazards. Mines, fire pits and spinning saws can take players out, even if they escape a tackle.

So you need to read not only the defense but also keep an eye on the surroundings. The stadiums change which running routes are risky and where a play is worth it.

Mutant Football League lets you choose teams of skeletons, robots, aliens, orcs and mutated humans. Different player stats and team strengths affect how well running, passing and aggressive defense work.

The characters and team names play on familiar football clichés. Commentator Tim Kitzrow accompanies the matches with over-the-top calls.

Game series

Mutant Football League is the spiritual successor to the classic Mutant League Football. It takes over its mix of American football, fantasy monsters and black humor, but does not continue an NFL license.

Digital Dreams Entertainment developed and published the game. The teams and players are invented parodies, not officially licensed NFL teams.
