What is Nintendo Switch Sports Resort?
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is a motion sports game exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. On Wuhu Island, players can try twelve disciplines, compete against each other and explore the island through leisure activities. Depending on the sport, the Joy-Con 2 controllers serve as a racket, bow, handlebars or flight controls.
The game can be played alone, together on one console, or online in supported competitions. Instead of an open sports world with realistic pro sports rules, Nintendo combines short competitions with special mini-games and a standalone exploration area.

Platforms
Only Nintendo Switch 2 is confirmed. The sports are designed for motion controls with Joy-Con 2; skateboarding uses the mouse function of the new controllers. Nintendo mentions TV and tabletop modes. A regular handheld mode without detached controllers is not listed as a play style.
According to Nintendo, Joy-Con from the original Nintendo Switch can also be used in supported disciplines, but not for skateboarding. Depending on the number of local players, the game requires additional compatible controllers. Online matches require an internet connection, a Nintendo Account and a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Gameplay
Nine competitive sports are available: Boxing, Table tennis, Archery, Tennis, Volleyball, Bowling, Basketball, Golf and Arm wrestling. There are also three leisure disciplines: Skateboarding, Power Cruising on the water and Prop Plane in the air.
Movements with the controllers determine hits, throws, aiming and steering. In sports like table tennis or bowling, timing plays a bigger role, while the leisure disciplines also allow free exploration of the island. Jump rope complements the offering as a warm-up activity and is not one of the twelve main disciplines.

Special rules change familiar games
Many disciplines include alternative challenges in addition to the normal match. For example, table tennis offers a task where returned balls must hit cans. Volleyball has a rhythmic receiving game; in tennis, a larger, slower ball makes it easier to get started.
In bowling, obstacles and moving platforms are added to the lanes, along with a mode with 100 pins. In archery, players can aim at their own target zones at the same time. These variations are fixed game modes, not just temporary actions.

Wuhu Island by land, sea and air
The Wuhu Island, known from older Nintendo sports games, serves as a connected backdrop. With the skateboard, watercraft and propeller plane, the island's areas can also be explored beyond classic point-scoring games.
During exploration tours, players can discover special photo subjects and collect so-called Spocco Photos. Nintendo mentions hidden hibiscus flowers and encounters with dolphins, among other things. Skate and water activities also offer time trials, while the propeller plane has its own ball competition.

Single-player challenges and Island Crown
In the offline Island Crown mode, solo players compete in the various competitive sports against increasingly strong opponents. At the end, you face the respective Island Champions; whoever beats them can, according to Nintendo, test themselves against especially experienced masters.
This gives Sports Resort a longer-term solo goal alongside individual matches. This progress is separate from the online leagues and does not require competing against human opponents.

Playing locally and online
On one console, up to four people can play together; the exact number of players differs by sport. Online, you can choose from friend lobbies, a Pro League with skill-based ranks and a casual mode that does not affect league rankings.
Player limits also vary online: for example, Nintendo allows up to 16 people in bowling and up to eight in golf. Skateboarding, Power Cruising and Prop Plane can be played online in friend lobbies. Not every online mode offers the same player numbers for every discipline.

Creating Sportsmates and Miis
Players create a Sportsmate or use a Mii character. By playing in solo, local and online modes, you earn Spocco Points, which can be exchanged at the Item Center for clothing, equipment, hairstyles and other customization options.
You can save five favorite looks to quickly change outfits between sports. The Item Center has a rotating selection. The underlying points and customization system, however, is a permanent part of the game.
