What is PEAK?

PEAK is a cooperative climbing and survival adventure by Aggro Crab and Landfall. After a crash landing on a remote island, up to four scouts look for a way to the mountain peak, where they can be rescued. Along the way, stamina, equipment and teamwork decide how far you get. The climb can also be played alone.

The game world has changing routes: the map is swapped out daily. That means even experienced groups have to keep checking new paths and pacing their strength.

Gameplay

Scouts look for holds, get past ledges and help others climb tricky sections. Ropes and grappling hooks can secure risky spots for teammates who follow. The way up means not using up your gear too early and making decisions together when obstacles appear.

Hunger, injuries and other hazards shorten available stamina. The challenge is therefore not only the climbing itself, but also survival decisions and the condition of the group.

DLCs and expansions

Since the PC launch, several major content updates have expanded PEAK's mountain world. The Final Ascent added the area variants Gloom and The Citadel, which can replace other mountain sections in the map rotation.

The update marks the end of the major content expansion phase. The console versions released on Oct 22, 2026 also include the added areas, items and game systems. Aggro Crab and Landfall intend to keep providing technical support for the game.

4-player co-op and crossplay

PEAK can be played solo or with up to three invited friends. The PC version combines online co-op with proximity voice chat: the distance between characters affects how well the group hears each other.

Since the console launch on Oct 22, 2026, players can climb together on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2. Progress is not synced between platforms. There is no automatic player matchmaking. On consoles, online play requires an online subscription; PEAK can be played offline on its own.

Ropes, food and injuries

Climbing ropes and hooks make demanding transitions easier. Because found items are limited, using them becomes a shared tactical decision. Other scouts can pull each other up or use a section that has already been secured.

Injuries and hunger weaken characters and reduce available stamina. Food, rest breaks and suitable tools are therefore important parts of any ascent. Certain foods and natural hazards, however, carry risks of their own.

Daily rotating island and badges

The island map changes every 24 hours. Since the console launch, the permanent rotation includes 208 different maps. You can retry a route on the same day, and the next day brings a different mix of climbing sections and hazards.

The developers have built the maps permanently into the game so the daily variety remains without regular new map packs. Additional badges reward special achievements and unlock cosmetic customizations.

The Final Ascent and the new mountain regions

The Final Ascent brought the variants Gloom and The Citadel. They expand the daily map rotation and add obstacles, items and challenges.

On PC, PS5, Xbox Series and Switch 2, this content is now part of the game. According to the developers, no further major content updates are planned, but PEAK remains playable and will continue to receive technical support.

Languages and game access

The Steam version supports both single-player and online co-op and uses German as the interface language. Several other interface languages are available besides German.

Steam achievements and trading cards are also listed for Windows.

Modding and Steam Workshop

There is an active modding community for the PC version. Aggro Crab and Landfall support modders in various ways, including technical help, but do not plan an official Steam Workshop integration. Many modders use other tools that cannot easily be used across multiple platforms.

Mods are not supported in shared games with console players. Purely client-side changes may work, but their compatibility is not guaranteed. For reliable crossplay, unmodified game versions are recommended.

Game series

Aggro Crab and Landfall developed PEAK together. Members of both studios met in 2022 at a developer conference. The basic framework of the game came out of a one-month game jam in South Korea in February 2025. The polished PC version was released in June of that year.

Steam lists the shared development team as Team PEAK. The studios involved publish PEAK together. The game is a standalone brand and not the successor to an earlier title from the two companies.
