Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia is a cooperative psychological thriller and horror game by Kinetic Games. You enter haunted locations alone or with up to three other ghost hunters, search for paranormal traces and try to find out which ghost type is active there. Instead of classic combat, investigation is at the center: devices provide clues, sounds and behavior give the ghost away – and anyone who stays too long risks becoming prey themselves.

The PC version launched in Early Access on Sep 18, 2020. On Oct 29, 2024 native versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S followed; on PS5, PlayStation VR2 can optionally be used. Kinetic Games plans Version 1.0 for the second half of 2027. At the same time, Phasmophobia is set to debut on Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time.

Phasmophobia is currently available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 version optionally supports PlayStation VR2; PC players can also use VR. There is crossplay between the released PC and console versions. A native Nintendo Switch 2 version is announced for the second half of 2027, together with Version 1.0. A version for PS4, Xbox One or the original Nintendo Switch is not announced.

A round consists of observing, testing and ruling out. EMF readers, thermometers, cameras, ghost box and other tools help collect evidence. Different ghosts react differently to players, equipment and surroundings, so no two investigations play out the same. If you prefer to coordinate, you can support parts of the investigation from the truck via cameras and sensors. Besides online co-op for up to four players, Phasmophobia can also be played solo; an adjustable difficulty level allows additional custom rules.

Since the October 2026 update, you can also choose in a session whether to play with maps tied to a currently running seasonal event. Kinetic Games introduced this switch explicitly for Crimson Eye and future season events. The basic ghost investigation remains independent of this.

Phasmophobia has so far been expanded mainly through updates to the main game. Kinetic Games focuses on new or reworked maps, systems and quality improvements within the base game instead of a series of separate main-game sequels or mandatory expansions. Time-limited season events are part of ongoing operations, but are not permanent parts of this overview.

On PC, Steam lists Windows 10 (64-bit), an Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 8 GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 970 or Radeon R9 390, DirectX 11 and 21 GB free storage as minimum requirements. Kinetic Games notes that these minimum values are aimed at VR. Recommended include, among others, a Core i5-10600 or Ryzen 5 3600 and an RTX 2060 or Radeon RX 5700.
