What is Pikuniku?

Pikuniku is a puzzle and exploration adventure about a small, red character named Piku. Behind the friendly-looking world lies a story about exploitation and resistance. Piku helps the residents, solves everyday and absurd problems, and uncovers a conspiracy.

Gameplay

You guide Piku through side-on areas, talk to residents and open new paths with simple actions. Jumping, kicking and moving objects work together. Small tasks lead you into further areas, where new characters and puzzles await.

The campaign leaves room for detours and discoveries. Instead of complicated equipment, progress is driven by observation, movement and experimenting with the environment.

DLCs and expansions

On Steam, Pikuniku has a digital collector's edition with extra companion material. It includes a soundtrack and a comic. This content enhances the presentation of the game, not the actual campaign.

The base game can be played independently of this. No additional expansion is needed for the local puzzles.

Puzzles and tasks

Most obstacles can be solved by cleverly moving objects. Crates, switches, platforms and other elements form small physics puzzles. Often a kick in the right direction is enough, but sometimes you need to move several things in the right order.

Beyond the main tasks, the residents help out with unusual requests. Some solutions open new paths, others mainly lead to a funny encounter.

Jumping, kicking and exploring

Piku's long legs are both a means of getting around and the most important tool. With jumps and kicks, the red character moves obstacles or reaches new spots. Open paths, short skill sections and small puzzle rooms alternate across the areas.

The controls remain deliberately simple. This lets people who rarely play platformers try out how the moving objects connect.

The story behind the colourful world

Piku finds himself in a world whose cheerful surface hides a dark economic conspiracy. While the residents mainly worry about their own problems at first, Piku's discoveries show that a bigger plan lies behind their everyday lives.

The story is about community and resistance, without giving up the playful humour. Its twists unfold through conversations and the residents' tasks.

Residents and encounters

In Pikuniku you meet characters who are busy with everyday problems and strange wishes. Through conversations and helping out, you get to know the villagers. The dialogue often relies on dry comedy and absurd situations.

The small stories are an essential part of the adventure. They give the puzzles a purpose and make the world feel alive despite its simple shapes.

Local co-op for two players

In addition to the single-player campaign, there are dedicated co-operative puzzles for two players on the same device. The two characters have to coordinate to get past switches, obstacles and skill sections together.

On Nintendo Switch, one or two players are supported on one console. The PC version also supports Steam Remote Play Together, so you can start the local multiplayer tasks together through Steam.

Playtime and structure

The main story is designed as a compact adventure. On Steam, the campaign is listed at around four to five hours. Extra puzzles and local co-op mode add to the game without artificially stretching the story.

The individual areas are manageable in size. If you take time for side characters and small discoveries, you can stay in the world longer.

Graphics and humour

Clear geometric shapes, bold colours and simple animations define the look. Piku's red legs and the reduced design make movements and interactive objects easy to spot.

The deliberately friendly presentation contrasts with the story about power and exploitation. The humour comes through in both the dialogue and the characters' movements.

Pikuniku supports German on-screen text. On Steam, English, French, Italian, Spanish and other languages are also offered. The Nintendo eShop also lists German as a supported language.

The Nintendo Switch version is rated USK 0. Two players can play the local puzzles with separate controllers.
