What is RetroSpace?

RetroSpace is a first-person immersive sim from The Wild Gentlemen that combines science fiction, stealth, shooter elements and space horror in a deliberately quirky disco-punk aesthetic. It is set on Aurora 5, a massive space station swallowed by a thinking black hole. As the caretaker, you search for a way through the facility and decide for yourself whether to avoid conflict, manipulate systems or fight head-on.

The game world is not designed as a series of isolated arenas: areas of Aurora 5 connect with each other, shortcuts and alternative routes open new paths, and many situations allow multiple solutions.

Gameplay

RetroSpace focuses on systemic play rather than a single intended solution. Enemies and obstacles can be overcome by sneaking, hacking, distractions, improvised traps, detours or direct weapon use, among other options. Security systems and environmental hazards can be turned against each other.

The station is built as a connected complex with hub structures, shortcuts and areas you can return to. This makes it worthwhile to revisit older sections with new abilities.

Aurora 5 and the time shifts

Aurora 5 is more than a backdrop: the ship is stuck in a thinking black hole and is shifted between different points in its own history. This unstable environment shapes exploration and atmosphere, and explains why familiar areas can reappear in altered form.

Mutamods, death and cloning

With Mutamods, RetroSpace changes the character's abilities for combat, stealth, movement and exploration. However, the mutations can have side effects, so they are not a purely linear upgrade system. Death is also built into the game structure: Aurora 5 creates new clones, while equipment from earlier bodies can be recovered.
