ROCKBEASTS is a story-driven management RPG by LICHTHUND set in an alternative America of the 1990s. As the manager of a rising grunge band, it's about creative freedom, money worries, relationships and the expectations of the music industry.

Decisions change band members, reputation and career. The hand-drawn world draws on alternative rock, grunge and 90s music television.

ROCKBEASTS is announced for January 2027. LICHTHUND confirms this month for PlayStation 5. The Steam page lists the same period for PC. An exact day is not yet known.

For PC, ROCKBEASTS is announced on Steam. There is also an official PS5 store page.

The original announcement also named Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The current communication about the Critical Role partnership explicitly names Steam for 2027; a new date confirmation for the other consoles is still pending.

Gameplay

Players complete quests while keeping an eye on money, rehearsal spaces, food, equipment and the musicians' mood. Relationships with band members and figures from the music industry change based on your decisions.

Before concerts, setlists and equipment are prepared. On stage, ROCKBEASTS switches to rhythm-based performance sequences; success brings money, fans and new opportunities, while mistakes cost reputation and morale.

System requirements

Steam lists the minimum as Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-7200U or AMD Ryzen 3 3250U, 8 GB RAM, Intel UHD 620 or Radeon RX Vega 3, and 25 GB free storage.

Recommended are an Intel Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600, plus a GeForce GTX 1050 or Radeon RX 550. Here too, 8 GB RAM and 25 GB storage are listed.

Stage, soundtrack and cast

Music is a game feature in its own right, not just background. ROCKBEASTS includes 17 full original songs inspired by 1990s alternative rock and grunge. The tracks were recorded with real instruments and are linked to concert and setlist systems.

According to official information, the voice cast includes Iggy Pop as well as Matthew Mercer, Sam Riegel and Liam O’Brien from Critical Role. The story is by Jakub Szamałek, who previously worked on The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 and The Blood of Dawnwalker.

Development and publishing

ROCKBEASTS is developed by LICHTHUND. After the earlier agreement with Team17 ended, the studio is working with Critical Role on publishing and creative development. Both LICHTHUND and Critical Role are now listed as publishers on Steam.

The partnership also covers the cast: Matthew Mercer and Sam Riegel are officially involved in voice roles, according to LICHTHUND. The Steam listing also names Liam O’Brien and Iggy Pop. The exact scope of each role has not yet been described.
