Sea of Stars is a turn-based role-playing game by Sabotage Studio about the Solstice Warriors Valere and Zale. It combines classically inspired combat with timed inputs, free exploration, local co-op and the free expansion Throes of the Watchmaker.

What is Sea of Stars?

Sea of Stars is a turn-based role-playing game by Sabotage Studio. It centers on Valere and Zale, two Children of the Solstice who combine solar and lunar powers into Eclipse Magic and use it to fight the creations of the Fleshmancer.

The game combines classic party RPG structures with more modern exploration, visible enemies and battles without separate random encounters.

Sabotage Studio dates the original launch to Aug 29, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Mobile versions for iOS and Android followed on Apr 7, 2026. A native Nintendo Switch 2 version was released on Jun 8, 2026 together with the final Sunset Edition.

Native versions are available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, iOS and Android. The Switch 2 version is a separate native release and is not covered solely by backward compatibility.

On Switch 2, Sea of Stars also supports GameShare. The mobile versions have been adapted for touch devices.

Gameplay

The combat system is turn-based, but adds timing inputs to its turns. Correctly timed inputs increase your own damage or reduce incoming damage. Combo attacks, Boosting and the Lock system reward choosing the right damage types to interrupt enemy special actions.

Outside of battles, characters can swim, climb, jump and overcome ledges. Alongside the main journey, sailing, cooking, fishing and the board game Wheels are ongoing side activities.

DLCs and expansions

Throes of the Watchmaker is a free story expansion released on May 20, 2025. In it, Valere and Zale travel to Horloge, a miniature world centered around a cursed fairground.

The expansion adds new areas, dungeons, bosses and puzzles, new classes for Valere and Zale, and Arty as an additional playable character. Sabotage puts the scope at more than eight hours of new content.

Co-op and Dawn of Equinox

With the free Dawn of Equinox update of November 12, 2024, the entire main campaign became playable locally for up to three players. The system adds shared Co-op Timed Hits and lets fellow players traverse the world together.

The same update reworked parts of the combat system. These include Mystery Locks, Combo Points across combat boundaries and further balance adjustments.

Sunset Edition and end of development

On June 8, 2026, Sabotage released the Sunset Edition as a final free update. It adds a new cinematic prologue and further adjustments, and accompanies the native Switch 2 launch.

Sabotage describes the Sunset Edition as the end of active development; no further updates or DLCs are currently planned.

Playdigious released Sea of Stars natively for iOS and Android on April 7, 2026. The versions keep the complete role-playing game and were adapted for mobile play with an adjusted interface and touch controls.
