Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments is available for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The Switch version was released on Feb 3, 2022.

On a PlayStation 5, the PS4 version runs via backward compatibility. It is not a separate PS5 version.

The focus is on searching for clues, conversations and logical conclusions. Holmes examines objects, questions witnesses and reconstructs events. Which clues you connect shapes how you interpret the case.

The investigations reward attention to detail and careful thinking rather than quick reactions.

For Windows, Steam lists a minimum of a 2.4 GHz dual-core processor, 2 GB RAM and 14 GB of free storage. Older graphics cards listed are the Radeon HD 3850 and GeForce 8600 GTS. The game requires DirectX 9.0c.

The original specs list Windows Vista, 7 and 8. The Steam client now requires at least Windows 10.

In six standalone cases, Holmes investigates murder, missing persons and theft, among other crimes. The stories take you to different locations and focus on new suspects and pieces of evidence in each case.

Dr. Watson accompanies Holmes on his investigations in Victorian England.

You link the clues you've gathered into possible explanations and decide for yourself which suspects fit with the evidence. Not every conclusion has to be right.

Contradictory witness statements can be checked against observations at the crime scene.

At the end of a case, Holmes doesn't just decide who he believes is guilty. You can also decide what happens to the suspect and weigh compassion against harsh punishment.

Holmes uses 14 detective skills to find clues at crime scenes and weigh up witness statements. Talking to suspects opens new lines of inquiry, while examining objects reveals additional details.

The PC version offers German menus and subtitles along with English voice-over. Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments is a single-player adventure. German text is also available for the Nintendo Switch version.

Holmes can pose as someone else with different clothing and fake beards. This helps him get new information from witnesses and suspects in conversation.
