What is Spyder: Agent 8?

Spyder: Agent 8 is a family-friendly puzzle and stealth adventure from Sumo Digital. The playable character is not a human secret agent but a tiny robot spider that can crawl across floors, walls and ceilings. Its size becomes a tool: Agent 8 reaches technical installations that a human could not easily access.

The game focuses on precise movement, observation, small technical interventions and revisiting completed missions. It combines a 1970s-style spy film setting with openly designed 3D puzzle rooms.

Release

Sumo Digital developed the original Spyder production for Apple Arcade, where the adventure launched on Mar 20, 2020. The long-standing movement and camera technology for a robot spider that moves freely across surfaces is part of this origin.

The new release as Spyder: Agent 8 is announced for Feb 11, 2027 on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. PQube is handling the release. The previous Apple Arcade edition is not a native version on any of the listed console platforms.

Platforms

PQube names five native current platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. On PC, Steam and Epic Games Store are distribution channels for the same platform. The Switch 2 version was announced separately, along with the October 2026 date. A Switch version that runs compatibly on Switch 2 does not on its own prove a new native port; the separate announcement from the publisher is what counts.

The Nintendo Store lists a single-player mode and German text for the Switch version. The PS5 page mentions controller vibration and trigger functions, as well as PS5 Pro optimization. These details are device-specific and cannot simply be applied to all versions.

Gameplay

In technically secured rooms, Agent 8 must find routes, get around surveillance and trigger larger sequences through small interventions. Unlike in a classic action game, solutions come from the arrangement of pipes, switches, sensors and movable objects. The controls let you examine surfaces from all sides.

The player character has, among other tools, a cutting laser for opening panels and a grapple or rope mechanism for crossing gaps. If you understand the environment, you can often plan the next step before using a tool.

System requirements

Steam requires a 64-bit system. Specific details on the Windows version, processor and graphics card are still listed as TBC (“to be announced”). Reliable minimum or recommended CPU and GPU models cannot be named yet.

A published early test or demo does not automatically mean the system requirements of the final version will stay the same.

Moving across walls and ceilings

The robot spider can climb vertical surfaces and walk upside down thanks to sticky feet. The camera follows its orientation and can be steered manually in some places. According to Sumo Digital, this unusual spatial orientation was already a central technical development task in the original Apple Arcade project.

The PC re-release adds controller support, so the movement logic originally designed for touch controls is being adapted to other input devices. How the controls are implemented on each console in detail should be checked separately before release.

Missions in miniature perspective

The missions take place in a command centre, on a submarine, during a space mission and on a moving train, among other settings. The opponent is the organisation Syndicate of International Nasties (S.I.N.), whose plans Agent 8 must disrupt through sabotage.

The scale turns ordinary technical components into climbing landscapes: cable runs, switches and furniture take on a new function from the perspective of the small spy. The main missions combine this room design with a clear goal and hidden side routes.

Micro-Missions as short challenges

After finishing a main mission, special Micro-Missions can be unlocked. PQube describes them as challenges of about three minutes, each with its own tasks. The focus shifts here from first-time discovery to quick, precise execution of movements and tools you have already learned.

The short challenges are a standalone, permanent mode and not just a time-limited demo event.

Recon Mode and replays

Completed missions can be replayed. Recon Mode adds new objectives that make systematically searching familiar environments worthwhile. The new perspective on the tasks is one of the long-term game contents that PQube has explicitly announced.

Collected items and an extra disguise are part of the reason to replay. Alongside campaign progress, the game also asks how thoroughly you understood each area of operation.

Hidden stickers and rewards

Stickers and other hidden collectibles are placed throughout the missions. Finding them requires a more thorough search than the direct route to the mission objective. Agent 8's tiny size makes inconspicuous corners and unusual surfaces especially relevant.

Extra tasks in replays give you reasons to explore familiar rooms a second time from a different angle.

Languages and game scope

The PC version lists German for the interface, subtitles and voice audio. Steam also lists English, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese for text. Full voice audio is only listed for selected languages. The offer may vary by platform.

This is a single-player adventure. Steam and Nintendo do not list a co-op or online competitive mode. Steam achievements and cloud saves are listed as additional PC services.

Studio and publisher

Sumo Digital is the developer and original creator of the robot spy character. The first version was made in collaboration with Apple for Apple Arcade. For the announced PC and console versions, PQube is the publisher. The current Steam listing names Sumo Digital Ltd as the rights holder.

The year 2027 marks the platform's re-release, not the first creation of Agent 8.
