What is STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT?
STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT is a thoroughly reworked version of the science fiction visual novel STEINS;GATE. The re-release tells the story of Rintaro Okabe and the Future Gadget Laboratory in Akihabara. A failed experiment allows the circle of friends to send messages to the past. Every change can have unexpected consequences for the present.
The story is based on the STEINS;GATE ELITE scenario but gets newly written dialogue, an additional world line and another ending. RE:BOOT is therefore more than a simple graphical re-release, but not a standalone sequel.

Release
STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT was released in Japan on Aug 20, 2026 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch and Switch 2. On Steam, the game is already available internationally. Some Steam regions show Aug 19.
In Europe, the native versions for PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 release on Oct 29, 2026. The Japanese Xbox Series launch is also announced for that day. A European PS4 release is not listed in the international platform overview.

Platforms
The re-release is available natively for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Which versions are available depends on the region: PS4 is part of the Japanese lineup, while the European product overview lists PS5, Xbox Series and both Switch generations.
Switch and Switch 2 have separate versions. According to MAGES., save data cannot be transferred between the two. In Europe, physical editions are offered for PS5, Switch and Switch 2. A download version is planned for Xbox Series.

Gameplay
STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT is a text-based single-player story with multiple endings. You read dialogue, observe the characters and decide at key moments how Okabe handles messages and calls on his cell phone.
The Phone Trigger system lets you reply to messages, ignore them or react to them in other ways. These decisions affect the course of the story. Classic combat, open world or multiplayer modes are not part of the game.

DLCs and expansions
The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the main game plus a digital soundtrack, an image collection and additional material for the STEINS;GATE 15th LIVE ONE WORLD anniversary event.
STEINS;GATE Octet of Shifting Space is a separate side game inspired by classic computer adventures. It is included in selected digital pre-order or early purchase promotions, but only becomes playable at a later date. It is not necessary for the main story of RE:BOOT.

System requirements
On Windows, STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT requires a 64-bit system with Windows 10 or newer, 4 GB RAM and 9 GB of free storage. Steam lists an AMD FX-8150 or a comparable CPU as the minimum processor. The graphics card needs at least 1 GB VRAM and DirectX 11.
8 GB RAM and at least an Intel Core i5-9300 are recommended. The remaining graphics and storage requirements stay the same.

New world line and additional dialogue
RE:BOOT adds a new world line with its own ending. MAGES. wrote new scenes and text passages for it and reworked the known storyline based on STEINS;GATE ELITE.
The additional story is woven into the same time-travel story. Newcomers can follow the adventure, while fans of the original will find new material.

Newly drawn backgrounds and characters
For the re-release, character art, background graphics and scene illustrations were newly created. Character designer huke reworked the characters. Compared with the original 2009 Xbox 360 version, RE:BOOT contains, according to MAGES., roughly twice as many scene images and around 20 percent more background art.
The E-mote animation technology makes facial expressions smoother and adds small movements and visible breathing animations. Akihabara's streets and buildings have also been redesigned.

Voice acting and music
All Japanese dialogue was re-recorded for RE:BOOT. The music also does not come unchanged from the original release: composer Takeshi Abo has rearranged or re-recorded the background tracks.
The full voice acting is in Japanese. The re-release supports English, Japanese, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese on-screen text.

Languages and content
The dialogue is in Japanese. Menus and subtitles are available in Japanese, English, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese. A German text translation is not listed.
Steam lists a playtime of roughly 30 to 50 hours for the narrative single-player campaign. The length depends mainly on how many story routes and endings you explore.

Game series
STEINS;GATE first came out in 2009 for Xbox 360 and became a central part of the Science Adventure series. The new version continues the same main conflict about sending messages to the past, without requiring you to have played another series entry first.
RE:BOOT was developed by MAGES.. The international versions are published by Spike Chunsoft. The story and characters are part of the shared STEINS;GATE universe.
