Subnautica 2

Subnautica 2 is a survival adventure in an unknown ocean. After a failed colonisation, you land on an alien world and search underwater for materials, shelter and answers to the planet's mysteries.

While exploring, you discover life forms, build underwater bases and develop new tools. The game can be played solo or together with up to three friends.

Subnautica 2 has been available in Early Access for PC and Xbox Series X|S since May 14, 2026. Unknown Worlds will expand the game during development with new biomes, creatures and equipment.

Subnautica 2 has been released for Windows PC and Xbox Series X|S. Online co-op connects up to four players, including across platforms. The entire story can also be played solo.

While diving, you study plants, animals and ruins. Materials are used to build tools, vehicles and bases. The small diving vehicle Tadpole opens up more distant areas. Dangerous sea creatures and limited oxygen make preparing for longer trips important.

During the Early Access phase, Unknown Worlds is focusing on free new game content and system improvements. No paid expansions have been announced for this period. The separately sold soundtrack does not expand the playable content.

On PC, you need at least Windows 10 or 11, a Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600, 12 GB RAM and 50 GB storage space. Steam lists a GeForce GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 5500 XT with 6 GB of video memory each as graphics cards. 16 GB RAM and an RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT are recommended.

Up to four players can explore together. Online co-op offers proximity voice chat, direct item trading and the ability to revive injured teammates. All content can also be played solo.

Biomods change the abilities of your character. New modifications are unlocked in biolabs, while creature scans can open up additional passive slots. This progression mechanic has been part of the Early Access version since the "Adaptive Measures" update.

Underwater bases serve as safe retreats, workshops and material storage. Rooms, interior fittings and technical facilities can be combined and changed later. Additional materials expand the range of possible building designs.

Unknown Worlds plans larger areas, additional biomes and new chapters of the story for the further Early Access. A developer video from Oct 15, 2026 presents the preparation of "Early Access 2". No specific release date has been announced for this expansion so far.
