Gameplay

In terms of gameplay, Tenebris Somnia combines classic survival horror elements with point-and-click puzzles. Julia explores eerie locations, manages limited resources and defends herself against grotesque enemies.

The 2D game world deliberately draws on the 8-bit and 16-bit era. Key story scenes, by contrast, switch to live-action sequences with professional actors, elaborate make-up and practical monster effects.

Live-action and practical effects

A central part of the staging is the switch between the 2D pixel world and filmed sequences with real actors. According to the official description, the live-action scenes appear at key points in the story. A film crew from Argentina was involved in production, working with practical mask and monster effects.

These sequences are a storytelling device of the game, not a separate film mode. The gameplay sections remain a survival horror adventure with exploration, puzzles and combat.
