What is The Wolf Among Us?
The Wolf Among Us is a five-part interactive crime story by Telltale Games. In the New York community of Fabletown, figures from fairy tales and legends live hidden among ordinary people. Players take on the role of Sheriff Bigby Wolf and investigate a case that threatens the community's coexistence.
The adventure is based on Bill Willingham's comic series Fables from DC/Vertigo and is set before its first issue. No prior knowledge of the comics is needed. Instead of a freely explorable action world, the focus is on dialogue, investigations, decisions and staging a connected story.

The first episode came out on Oct 11, 2013 for PC and Xbox 360. The season's five chapters were released between 2013 and July 2014. Platforms
The original season has eight native platform versions: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation Vita, iOS and Android. The PC version includes Windows and macOS. The PS4 version can be played on PS5 through backward compatibility; this does not create a new native PS5 version. The same applies to playing older Xbox versions on newer consoles.
The Switch, Switch 2 and PS5 versions announced for 2026 belong to the separate Remastered edition.

Gameplay
The story alternates between staged conversations, investigating locations and interactive action sequences. Bigby hears different accounts of a case, looks for clues and questions residents of Fabletown. Who is pressured, protected or challenged in which situation changes individual reactions and later dialogue.
Some choices are time-limited. The game rewards attention to characters and connections more than dexterity. It remains a deliberately composed crime story, not an open detective sandbox with randomly generated cases.

DLCs and expansions
The season includes Faith, Smoke and Mirrors, A Crooked Mile, In Sheep's Clothing and Cry Wolf. The chapters, originally released in installments, form a directly connected story. Today's complete editions include all five episodes.
Older Season Passes on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 served as the purchase model for episodic unlocks. They are not a replacement for the base game and not separate native platform versions.

Fabletown and the Fables source material
Fabletown is a community of fairy-tale characters who live hidden among New York's residents. Sheriff Bigby Wolf keeps order there, while Snow White and other well-known figures take on new roles. The game shows these mythical figures in a harsh contemporary world.
Stylized comic-style surfaces, harsh color contrasts and night-time streets give the title a distinct noir aesthetic. As a prequel to Bill Willingham's Fables, the adventure is also understandable without knowledge of the comics.

Original and Remastered: What's changing?
The original version dates from the release period of 2013/2014. The separately announced The Wolf Among Us Remastered is due out on Oct 29, 2026 and adds, among other things, modernized lighting, a revised presentation and a switchable black-and-white mode called Noir Mode.
Both products tell Bigby's first case, but they are separate editions with different native platforms. The release dates and prices of the remaster therefore do not belong to the original version.
